Has anyone used Tilman speed for any work? I have dropped my car off about a month and a half ago and they still havent finished. They are supose to put in a stroker kit and dyno tune it. has anyone had theses similar issues with tilman or am i just over reacting?

you should ask them what the hold up is. maybe they are waiting for some parts that they need for the install or something like that. but i think the best people to ask would be Tillman themself. but i wouldn't go jumping to conclusions until you get the word from them. i have a friend that recently put in a stroker himself, but things came up along the way that were unforseen and took longer than expected.

Any reputable shop should know what to expect in the way of issues unless they are doing something they have not done before. Sure, problems can come up, but good customer service means contacting the customer and letting them know why the project will be delayed, and what the holdup is. The end result is not always the only measure by which you rate a company.

There is a small bodyshop here that is owned by a mechanic I have worked with for 25 years. Over the years they have done a great job when I needed it, and when my father's car was stolen and scratched up, I suggested he take it to them to have fixed. This is not just a regular car, it costs more than my house, and the body/paint guy was aware of this going in. He quoted a week, but said it might take a few days longer because he figured something might come up with all the sensors in the bumper cover and all, and he wanted the paint to be perfect. Based on the idea that it might run into 2 weeks, we let him have the car. After 2 weeks, he had removed the bumper cover and started work on the replacement. After 3 weeks, we had to threaten the owner with the cost of a high dollar rental if it wasn't done. In the end, it took just over 4 weeks for a small scratch on the bumper and a nick on the hood. It was $2600 in repairs (not surprising on a $107k car), and the repair work was far superior to the factory paint. However, it was unacceptable that he took as long as he did, and we will never bring business to them again. If he had quoted that it might run a few weeks over, all would have been fine. The reason for the extra time was other work was coming in that the insurance company made a priority because of rental vehicles. It was a one man shop, and he couldn't afford to lose business from the insurance companies, and since our insurance wasn't paying for a rental, it was not a priority. While I understood the situation, and was more than happy with the results, the fact that it took 2x longer than quoted was just not acceptable. He should have called as soon as he realized it would be delayed, and told us, and given us the option of booking the job elsewhere. Instead, they waited til we called to drop the news, then said another week, and a week later, said another week to 10 days. Complete BS.

The reason they are delaying your vehicle is because they can. They can, because you have not raised hell with them. Chances are, other projects have kept them away from yours, and since you are not in their shop screaming at them, they figure they can get away with it. If a part was on backorder, they would have called you to tell you, but I would bet money it is just because they have other projects ahead of yours and they are putting yours on the back burner. Understandable, but still unacceptable.

I would not hesitate to call and complain to the owner. If he doesn't come up with an explaination that makes them a hero (ie 'a better part became available and we were waiting for it so you can have more power for the same money'), then perhaps suggest they pay rent on your vehicle for the extra time they have had it. A few days is acceptable, a week is understandable, three weeks is complete and utter disrespect for the customer.
