Anyone try the G2 kit? How did it work? Im thinking of doing black. I dont want to take the calipers off. Also how long does it take to dry? I will have to do 1 wheel at a time.

 

Haven't tried the g2 but it takes longer to tape off rather to than to pull the pads. I jacked up entire car and started with one wheel and buy the time i got around to last, started 2nd coat on the first. You have to be super careful putting the wheels back on or you will scrape the calipers. If you do scrape them go ahead put wheels on and touch up thru the wheel if possible.

 

I used the exact same kit for my rear calipers (I have the GT500 brembos up front). I did two coats and although I didn't measure the time to dry, I imagine its 24hrs. I don't drive my car everyday so I left it for a couple to be sure.

The finish is good and holding well... Three years and a few nicks, but they're still nice and black. The trick is to dump the crappy brush that comes in the kit and go to the hobby store for a nice quality brush ($3-5 is worth it!).

 

+1 on that brush idea. I took that hint and picked up a foam 1" brush and it worked really well.

I used DupliColor (same idea) and one Saturday afternoon jacked up all four wheels. Did all four at once, by the the time I finished the fourth, the first was ready for its second coat. Doesn't take long and dries to the touch in minutes. But the high temp acrylic takes awhile to cure fully, so I didn't drive it until Monday's commute. Daily driving takes its toll on the paint but there should be more than enough for the occasional touch up, done through the wheels or done with new pads.

 

I havent used it myself but do know that once you mix the reactor with the paint you only have 4-6 hrs before it hardens and cannot be used. Therefore, doing one wheel at a time won't work unless you buy a kit for each wheel. Its all explained on the G2 FAQ page at http://g2usa.com/faq.shtml#3

 

I did the duplicolor (red). Went and got a brush set from a craft store. Had MEK standing by for the screw ups (and I had a few, did outside and inside of calipers while on the rotors.

Patience is the key.

Ace Hardware, acetone, Rustoleum, disposable foam brushes... I completely take them apart (so all the hardware, clips, etc don't get paint on them), clean and paint... Done this before. Will hold up well, even to power washes.

 

does anyone have a link as to were to get this paint.

 

I've used Duplicolor kit from Autozone. The instruction says to wait 15-20 minutes between coats and the paint cures for 24 hours.
