Default CS40s and Nitto Invos

I'm looking at getting new wheels/tires in the next week or so and I think I have decided on CS40s (Black) and Nitto Invos.

I was looking at going staggered 20 x 9s in the front and 20 x 10s in the back. I was looking at setups like this and I noticed that most of these are wrapped in 255/35/20s in the front and 295/30/20s in the back. I was wondering why the sidewall difference? I just assumed that those values would be the same and the only difference would be width...

I was also informed that I may be looking into an issue with understeering. I don't really know what this is all about but I assume it has to do with the power my car is pushing not being able to handle the wider rear tires. I have a stock V6 (sorry, first car...) manual. So, am I going to be causing noticeable problems with this setup? I'm a fan of the beefy, wide tire muscle car look which is why I was going for this setup but if it will cause major problems then I may go 20 x 9s all around with 255s...

Thanks in advance for any help.

The sidewalls of these two tires are actually almost the exact same at 3.48 inches for the 295s and 3.51 inches for the 255s. I don't know about the understeer issue as I have full suspension, but when I was on stock suspension and stock wheels, I use to get understeer into a corner and I learned to fix that with a little bit of throttle. Are you lowered at all? I would suggest 295/35/20 and 245/40/20 because the sidewalls are bigger with these tire sizes and they don't make the tires look goofy on the car. I'm running these sizes with a 1.5" drop and the tires completely fill the wheels wells.

that is the exact same set-up that I am considering with my new Mustang (20x9 up front with Toyo Proxe 4 255/35/20 and 20x10 out back with Toyo Proxe 4 295/30/20), except I'll be going with the Toyo Proxe 4's...that is what I ran on my 05 GT that you see in my signature and the car handled very well.

The black/machined faced CS 40s are very nice. I just don't see the need for 295s in the back for 4.0. I have Nitto 555s (255/35/20 and 275/35/20 on 20x9 front and 20x10 rear), and it seems to be just fine for the GT. Why go so big?

Anyways, enjoy some pictures of my CS 40s. Pic sl*t I know.

Nice looking car Jasper. I understand that I don't need the wider tires but I just like the look of them. I'm just making sure that i won't have any issues that come up because of the wider tires. Basically, I want the wider tires for looks but I don't want them bad enough to cause problems.

It sounds like it will be okay though. What is understeering like? Like I said, this is my first car so I don't really know too much about them. I've learned a lot about cars in general from this forum but I've never heard anything about understeering...

No, my car is not lowered. My future plans include a Cervinis C-Series Front End and some Street Scene side skirts and rear valence. Due to this, I don't know if I want to lower my car as it will be low with these body parts on. Is this sound reasoning?

wicked stang, do you have any pictures of your car (side view preferably)?

I appreciate the responses.

So, I talked with Mike from Cruizin Concepts and he recommended that I go with Toyo Proxes 4 rather than Invos. He said they are better and cheaper. I'm still in love with the Invo tread pattern but I figured I would throw this one out to everyone here. What difference am I going to be looking at performance wise between the two tires?

The understeer issue you have heard about surrounds the fact that our cars understeer (push) with stock tires (same width all around). When you go to a staggered setup you increase rear grip because of the wider tires out back. You don't necessarily loose front grip with a staggered setup but you do gain rear traction which effects the balance of the car. I would say if you aren't lowering the car I wouldn't worry too much about the understeer since it would only be right at the limit of adhesion. That being said I would lower your car to avoid it looking like a 4x4 with 20s.
goodluck and post some pics when you get the rims

Thanks Twinbo. I looked it up and that was basically what I got as well.

Thing is, I'm still not sure if I should lower it if I am planning on the C-Series front end...the car is a DD and I don't want to tear it up because of it being too low. Would the C-Series balance out the 20's or do I still need to lower?

Also, still looking for opinions on the Toyo Proxes 4 vs. Nitto Invos...

I have 20's with the C-Series and the car is lowered. Also my DD. The tires are the INVOs.

I don't notice any understeer or anything but I have upgraded most of the suspension and it feels great to me. I love my INVOs and they grip great in rain and dry weather. Can't say anything about the Toyos since I never ran them.

I went with taller tires since my car was lowered with the Cervini kit. The taller tires gave me enough clearance to drive without problems and fill the wheel wells in. The sizes are 20x9 front rim with 245/40/20 and 20x10 rear with 295/35/20.

Here's a few pics...
