Default Rust on Engine?

Just bought an 09 GT Premium and was looking around the engine and saw a thin coat of rust on the lower part of the engine, and a few nuts and bolts. Is this normal?

Did some searching and did not find any info.

This is my first American Muscle car and am really enjoying it. Traded in my 04 RX-8 two months ago.

Thanks for your help.

I bought my 09 GT in April and found the same rust stuff. I did some searching and from what I read, yeah, it's normal, nothing to worry about.

Yeah the crank pulley will rust before it gets off the lot from the factory....hate it but it is totally normal.

Its just surface rust and nothing to worry about. Sucks but the best remedy is not look there

When I got mine off the lot, the exhaust manifolds, crank pully, rear axle, and the strut rods that stick up out of the strut towers in the engine compartment were all rusty already. No big deal, like others said, its just surface rust, just leave it, it protects the metal underneath. (I hate the look of the "white rust" on the alternator, and valve covers, but whaddya gonna do??)

Get stuff powder coated

Or better yet get a cheap powder coating gun and tell the wife to leave the house and use the kitchen oven to bake things

If the rust/color really bothers you, try this stuff as you can apply it directly to rust and it forms a permanent finish. I have used it in the past and plan to order some for a few winter projects like the rear differential, balancer, etc.

Then explain to wifey why everyone in the household mysteriously
is diagnosed with Cancer in the very near or distant future....

If its on the outside, its OK. Its thin PROTECTIVE layer...
Rust on the inside of the motor =s trouble.
Dont even think about crawlin under the stang and peeking
at the driveshaft (rusty) or the rear end (even more rusted)...
Or the metal brackets under the dash (rusty)....

Yeah, cast iron and most other non-stainless metals will do that...
