Default Split the muffler open

Check this out, the Mustang I bought a month ago has a busted muffler, I think it happened during the test drive when I heard a backfire. Only heard it once, nothing since then. replaced it with a GT take off and man what a difference!

Yeah, I put my GT takeoff onto my g/f's V6 and it definitely sounds better. Be aware that the GT takeoff mufflers are different for those from a manual vs an auto. The mufflers from the manual sounds a bit better as it has a bit more flow than those off of an auto.

If I recall correct the AOA mufflers (auto) have one extra sound tube than the GOG (manual) mufflers. They sound the same, but the manual one is slightly louder.

157db had posted pics showing both internals. The muffler from the manual was less restrictive and has a tad more rumble.

The GT takesoff's for manual sound really good, a bit more throaty than for the auto. Dude, if that muffler blew when you were test driving that must have been one hell of a backfire!

What was the cause of the backfire and were any DTC thrown/stored?
Did you check before purchase?
The backfire would have been a big ol red flag.
You dont state auto or M/T for that V6 purchased.
Some more info on this 'backfire', and the circumstances
surrounding the 'backfire", beside just the result of the 'backfire', please.
Info is power on the forum...
Please pass some on to use for future reference...

GT M/T Muff FI-7849-R 4R3Z-5520-LM
auto is stamped F1-7991-R, manual is stamped F1-7849-R

I got a pair of GT take offs for a manual (preferred) for free. I have a V6 auto. I was test driving it and just coming down the off ramp from the freeway when I heard something but it didn't seem like it was that loud. No codes, no other issues. Cars been driving and riding fine since then. After I heard the sound I checked over the whole car over and told the salesman I wanted it checked out. nothing came of it and i remember looking under the car and not seeing anything weird.
