Exclamation Lug Nut Problem!

Hey guys... so the other day I was putting my left front tire back on and using a torque wrench. I get around to the fifth nut (doing 'every-other nut' format) and realize that it won't get tight (let alone to the torque spec). So I take the nut off and put it on a different stud, same thing. I take a different nut and put it on the stud that was giving me problems and it won't go on. At this point I am relieved it is the lug, and not the stud.

No big problem right? So I get on American Muscle's website and purchase a set of chrome acorn nuts ( http://www.americanmuscle.com/chrome...-lug-nuts.html ) and a set of lock nuts ( http://www.americanmuscle.com/chrome...eel-locks.html ).

I got them in the mail today, and when I go to put them on I notice that the acorn nuts are way too small and almost fit right through the hole on the wheel (I could still see the hole around the nut).

The Acorn nuts also had a compltely different 'slope' than the stock nuts.

I then try one of the lock nuts and it is so much shorter (in length) than the OEM nut that it completely bottoms out before it gets tight against the rim.

So, I called AM and they said they had never seen this before... they were nice enough to credit me for them, but now I'm having trouble finding lugs that will work properly.

So, has anyone else had this problem or could anyone give me some insight as to what is wrong? Thanks a lot guys!

I don't know why that would happen either and if the locking lugs are supposed to match with your vehicle...strange

Best bet might be just to go back to OEM if all else fails. Should be able to have locking lugs if you want though. Have you tried looking into Gorilla?

Buy a set of locking nuts from Ford. They fit with no problem.

thanks for your input guys... i was just shocked that the ones from American Muscle didn't work... they said they have sold thousands of these kits and never had a problem. But i think the pics clearly show there is a problem.

You dont need locking nuts.
They can be removed by anyone who wants your rims,
except you when the tire need changing....
PITA if you ask me. Now 5 locking lug nuts per rim would
discourage some....
Rotunda makes a great tool for removing them in a flash....
Gorrilla FTW

the problem is as much with the normal acorn nuts as the locking nuts because the new nuts aren't large enough... i actually already have 4 locking nuts on the car, but i liked the looks of the ones AM sells much better. Unfortunately, neither fit my car properly. And I'll look into Gorilla
