Hi everybody. Long time no post. I had to put my 10 on hold due to financial reasons (decided to add on to my house) but im back and back to searching, hopefully if things work out the way I hope they will I can get a 10 by october. But my sync question is with the Iphone.

To get my phone calls over the radio does it go through the USB cord. OR the bluetooth????

If it goes through the bluetooth, Will it work if connected to the USB cord?? Can I use the phone with out connecting it to sync, and still have the phone over the radio speakers? Thanks a bunch guys.

 

It is not a complete answer to your questions but Iphone will work thru bluetooth. I have Samsung Propel and I use the bluetooth capability. I didn't try to connect it thru USB.
By the way I still have unresolved issue with bluetooth. My phonebook was transferred to SYNC but not in full. There are several entries missing and I don't know how to correct it.

 

It goes thru bluetooth. The USB cord will connect to the iPhone but will interface for music. Yes, both will work and it will charge your iPhone while plugged in.

Yes, you can use the phone w/o connecting it to sync, but sync will automatically attempt to pair with the phone. Note that you will lose "services" capability if you don't have sync connected to your cell phone. Services gives you navigation, news, weather, traffic, etc. You also lose the texting capability, which reads your sms texts and allows you to dictate responses. Note this doesn't work with some phones and carriers, such as verizon -- not sure about AT&T and the iPhone.

So...the easiest way to do this is to disable bluetooth on your phone. If you want to get tricky and have a bluetooth headset and sync, but only connect to sync when you DON'T have your headset, set the headset to higher priority -- your phone can only be connected with one "audio device" at a time.

Long and short is, in phone mode, sync is basically a sophisticated headset. It relies on a trust with your phone that is controlled by your phone.

I have an iphone....

There are alot of problems with using your iphone to be your music player via the USB. Check out syncmyride.com and read the iphone sticky -- you'll see how bad it is.

So, I have abandoned trying to use the iphone as a USB media player. Instead, I copied my files to a flash drive and have full voice control over my music that way. I still use BT for my phone and services.

It's not the best, but there are known issues with using the iphone as a USB and a B/T. It will work once, then the system will get confused. I have not seen a single post from an iphone user that has been able to use both simultaneously for long.

My poor understanding is that it is not just a SYNC problem, but an iphone problem.

So, get the GT, will you love it. Just lower your expectations regarding your iphone and SYNC, at least for the moment.

 

Heya, to add on this question if I may. I know for the Infiniti G37 they had a list made up of compatible cell phones, is there such a list for the mustang? I'd like to know if I have to upgrade my phone before I pick up the wheels.

Looks like my phone isn't supported *sigh* more money about to be spent. I am so surprised that T mobile has less phones compatible than AT & T.

Yep! With the slight exception of:

For those with SMS/text-messaging capabilities (and many cell phone don't support the text messaging features of SYNC, so don't be crushed if your phone doesn't), you can't actually 'dictate' a response, but you can save up to 15 'canned' responses (it comes with 15, but you can change them), and tell SYNC to respond to the sender with one of those messages.

Voice recognition in the vehicle is making leaps and bounds, but pure dictation is still a little ways off.


Yeah. Apple doesn't like to play nice with devices or things that Apple hasn't made or licensed. SYNC uses standard Bluetooth and USB interaction protocols, but not all phone support them (or have them un-locked). Apple and the iPhone is the largest problem in this space. They don't seem interested in working toward a solution, either. Nevertheless, we'll be trying to figure out ways to make it better, especially given the number of iPhones out there.

 

We've noticed that too with several phones. It's an issue with the phone not wanting to play nice with the interaction protocol. To fix that, look for an application called SyncMyPhone (coming soon, I promise). If you can import your phonebook to a computer via USB cable (or even if you can't), you can create, edit, and re-order entries to make them specific to your car*, then put the SYNC-ified file on a Thumb drive, and load it up into the car. Since the phone book stays in the module's memory (it doesn't re-load every time you start your car up, unless you re-pair your phone from scratch or request a phonebook update), you should be in business.

*We noticed through talking with users of SYNC that some people put extra characters in names to 'move them up' the list. One user placed 2 zeros in front of her husband's name to make it at the top of the list. She complained that SYNC wouldn't work when she said "Call Mark". What SYNC needed to hear in order to execute that command was "Call zero zero Mark". So, for instances like this, SyncMyPhone will let you take a copy of your phonebook, modify any entries like this to remove these sorts of characters (or maybe phonetically spell people's names that SYNC has a hard time pronouncing/recognizing), then upload that Modified phonebook to the car, leaving the one on your phone un-touched. You can also save that modified phonebook in case your phone gets re-paired, or the in-car phonebook gets updated and overwritten with the one on your phone. Of course, SyncMyPhone also works for the people who have issues with incomplete transfers and the like, too. Our philosophy was to give users a way to side-step the problems that different cell phones create when trying to do basic SYNC functionality. Admittedly, it's a bit more work for the user, but it's the best we can do right now.
