Default Ford Interior Accent Lighting

Has anybody installed the Ford accent lighting kit in their mustang that wasnt equipped with it from factory? I notice the factory installed accent lighting has a ring in the cupholder and was wondering how the add on install kit works and what gets lit up?

I have it. The LEDs in the cup holder are too bright for night time IMO. The under dash lighting is nice. I wouldn't buy it again if I had it to do over.

You replace the entire center console. You don't just add an LED to the cupholder...

Yeah, that would be nice. But the kit did not come with a new console. It had 2 LEDs for the cup holder and a drill template to place the LEDs. I looked all over the little package and couldn't find the new console.

The cupholders are different in cars with this kit. Why the hell would someone pay $200 dollars for a couple LEDs and light bars that change colors. That's retarded.

The real kit has a translusent ring that goes in the cupholders not just a hole with a LED. :/

Did you buy the kit?? It says "Kit includes one LED-generated light in the cupholder area"

I looked into this not to long ago, I am also upgrading my dash to the six gauge my color cluster with information center. When I asked the parts guy about the OEM lighted center console the cheapest price I could get a quote on was around $700.00 from Ford.

I added my own ambient lighting for about $40. I got two Optx LED pods from Advanced Auto for $10 each, then a pack of 4 5mm blue LEDs from Amazon. I used 16 ga. speaker wire and tapped into the pink/blue wire from the unused harness under the center console. I put the pods on the mounting tabs that were there (my car is an 08) for the factory ambient lighting. I put one LED in the rear of the cup holder and also one inside the console compartment. I also wired everything up to an on/off switch that I put inside the console compartment.

Here are some pics...

Note: I also have blue LEDs in my map lights so that gives more blue light in those pics.

I think the cheap, easiest route is just having blue led's in the map lights. Looks good enough to me.
