Bullitt suspension differnece?
Hey guys, I got the GT, my moms got the Bullitt. Shes been asking me what speficaly is different about the suspensions. I told her I assume she probably has higher rates springs and better shocks /struts, but were trying to figure out for sure, so as I help her upgrade parts, were not going after something thats already pretty good from Ford before we get other items that will be better. Thanks for the help.
I have discussed this in great detail for several months. What KC and myself determined was that the Bullitt Mustang suspension came with slightly lower springs (and barely stiffer) and stiffer dampers. The front springs are the lowest standard GT springs and the rears are .5" lower than the standard GT springs (remember, there are several different springs that Ford uses according to the weight and options of the car). The dampers are special to the car, but are NOT the Ford Racing ones. I can't tell you that exact compression and rebound rates, but they are higher than the standard GT ones.
Bottom line, the Bullitt sits .5" lower in the rear and uses stiffer dampers.
I will dig up the part numbers if you wish.

good luck trying to figure out the spring codes. it has been kicking peoples behinds for quite some time.
nobody really knows, and Ford Tech is useless for any help. Everybody agrees the Bullitt sits lower..and that is about it.

by comparing spring codes to radio type, the general consensus is that the Shaker 1,000 cars have softer springs, and the regular/shaker 500 are harder springs.

Yeah, this is what I have heard in other places as well, all though the .5" lower rear is something I hadn't heard before. Basically everyone seems to come up with thinking the suspension is just set up slightly stiffer but cause of the vagueness of any response from Ford it is hard to prove or get the actual specifications.
However this leads me to another thought now. I would think Ford used the same rear axle as the GT, aside for the gearing. If the mount on the axle is the same and Ford lowered the rear end, wouldnt these cars greatly benifit from LCA relocation brackets, even more so then a stock height GT?

The spring tags for the Bullitt are FR: Orange (code: SGF), RR: Light Blue (code: SAR). The part number for the springs are FR: 6R33-5310-GA and RR: 5R33-5560-AC
I can't seem to find the damper part numbers.

The rear axle is the same 8.8" 31 spline unit that the GT and GT500 uses. The Bullitt came standard with the 3.73 gears, which was/is optional on the GT models. .5" isn't much of a difference in ride height. Do you know how much a full tank of gas weighs compared to a 1/4 tank? Ever had four people in the car at once? My point is, your ride height can change by as much as a .5" during normal use, so there's no need to change the LCAs. However, it is widely accepted that swapping out to stronger LCAs (with stiffer bushings) helps improve overall traction. As far as relocating/changing the angle of the LCAs, I wouldn't bother either.

Its all right man, no need to look up the codes, not gonna be doing anything with them.
As for the brackets though, its widly accepted that if you lower the static height of the car through suspension mods that you want to add the brackets to restore the mechanical advantage they gain at the angle there in. Granted people are usualy doing more then a .5" drop but then again I have seen people add them to stock height vehicles to generate more of a lifting affect for there straight line driver.

different gearsets and axleshafts. You have to use the GT500 gears and Install Kits on a Bullitt.
several guys have found out the hard way that the normal GT 8.8 stuff isn't applicable. Externally, everything should be darn near identical though

nice, thanks for the info. I didnt even know the 3.73 was optional at that time for the GT as well, the only option I was able to find after looking around (unless maybe you were going to special order one and wait) was with 3.55 that I got, then later replaced anyway with 4.10. But I'll take a look at hers anyway and make sure the arms are the same length and see what were going to do from there.
