Default Curious about thicker sidewall.....

From what I've gathered most people seem to have 45 front and 40 back on their 18's here. Now personally I like the rubber look on the car, and was planning on keeping mine stock height.

Has anybody tried or seen any tires with a sidewall of 50-60 on their 18's? Would it look alright or would it just be too funny?

Thanks in advance!

I, too, love the taller sidewalls and would LOVE to put some with RWL's on. Part of the problem is maintaining 18" tires that have close to the stock O.D. 235/55's came stock on my Stang and they're just too narrow. If you go with a wider tire with sidewall, you'll lose performance due to the gross increase in O.D.. Also, you're handling characteristics will suffer in some respects. I'm no expert in this but I'm sure others will provide insight. If I had the druthers, I'd find some 16" wheels (if they'll clear the brakes) with some beefy sidewalls and RWL's.

I have 295/45/18 tires on my car, nice fat sidewall. The problem with getting a 50-60 series tire is that, on an 18" wheel, most of the tires are truck tires.

Not if you grew up in the 60's and 70's... Not to offend, but a 295/45's sidewall is lame IMO.

Haha none taken, I am only 20 so I obviously didn't grow up in the 60's. However, I do think that having a 20" wheel with a real thin tire is more lame than a 295/45 tires sidewall.

True, the idea came when I was looking at a family members 300c. They've got 18's with 60 series. Granted they're on the factory rims and are 225/60 so they're really thin. I just wasn't sure if anybody has tried something like that to help fill the gap in the wheel well instead of going to 20's or the car having to be lowered.

You can put 245/60-18 on the rear without problems and 245/55-18 on the front.

the problem is you won't find tires that are that large.

nothing wrong with a 40 or 45 series tire

235/50/18 (stock tire) is 27.25" tall with a 4.62" sidewall height

295/45/18 is 28.45" tall with a 5.22" sidewall height...so that sounds like a great size tire IMO to run if you have wide enough rims (10")

I want to run the Firestone Wide Oval...but they only carry a 295/35/18...which is 26" in diameter with a 4" sidewall...way too narrow. and I want to keep the tires at least as big as the OEM size.

which sucks...who would have thought that tire buying would involve such headache?

Ahhh well. Guess I'll stick with the standard 45 front 40 back then lol. Thanks everyone.

You can see a small pic in my sig. 295/45/R18 out back. 255/45/R18 in front.

Took my final drive ratio from a 4.10 to a 3.90. While that's noticeable the increase in traction and ride quality was worth it over leaving the stock pirellis on the car.

17s would be nice to stick with but the tire selection is terrible if you aren't lowered.
