gear change
so i had 3.90s put in about a month and a half ago at swansons performance here in torrance CA. they f***ed up the install after charging me $650 because of how its hard to get to the differential, and there was a bunch of gear whine. so i had to take it back for readjustment of the pinion, a whole nother day. the whine never went away because the pattern was already worn into the gears. so then after about 2 weeks this sqeak comes up and i thought it was the wheel bearing, took it to chicane today and they tell me that it is the pinion bearing, due to improper gear install. so due to the crappy job done by swansons i basically have to pay for another gear install and while im at im just gunna have 4.10s put in. for anyone who is debating between 3.73s and 4.10s but thinks that 3.90s are the answer, dont bother, i barely noticed a difference going from the 3.55s to the 3.90s so just go 4.10s and just be done with it lol and dont go to swansons for installs if your in this area!
Got 4.10s' and wondered if I should of went with 4.30s'. don't fear the gear. by the way I have pegged my speedometer with 4.10s.' so so much for losing top end. I do have a brenspeed tune though.
the 1st shop should have to refund you at least the $$$ for the labor. if they ****ed up the install, they have to fix it.
I'd involve small claims court if they won't play ball. Get a affidavit from the 2nd shop and have them itemize what was done incorrectly.
btw, what utter crap about how "hard" it is to reach the pumpkin.
was that $650 labor + gears? or just labor alone?

Federal Law requires an estimate to be given prior to any work done.
the second any work exceeds that estimate, the shop must STOP and notify the owner.
failure to do so removes the Owner from the responsibility for that work...basically prevent a Shop from doing a bunch of unnessecary work, and then trying to stick it to the consumer...which is what I think happened to you.
ya o well im not too worried about getting the money back id rather just work the hours id be in court, im just making sure i never go back there again, they charge me a bunch and screw up the install. i dont know how they are still in business
Unfortunately your issue is very very common with gear installs, even Ford has trouble with them. Some shops have a rear guru who has the knack and touch to do it correctly the 1st time. I won't debate the merits of gear swaps but simply to say you hear of too many horror stories that for me personally until the clutch packs go, that rear is staying sealed. I would go back and get all your money, and use a CC next time, that gives you another layer of protection.
lol i dont fear the gear i fear the pump hahaha but im most likely gunna be getting a DD soon so now id feel better knowing this isnt my DD
