Squeak when breaking
Hey guys,
My breaks seem to make the squeaking noise when I am breaking. The funny thing is, it only happens in the morning and randomly every so often after not driving it for a day or so. But regardless of when the squeaking starts, it only takes a few applications of the breaks before it stops.
Is there anything I can do about it, or is just a moisture thing that won't go away?

Our stock rotors will get a light oxidation coating (a.k.a. rust) after a wash or overnight with high humidity. It's a normal nuisance. The initial application of the brake removes it so that's why you don't hear it on subsequent braking. Maybe some aftermarket rotors would help. Personally, I ignore it.
Nuke,
That is what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure.

I had that issue and it would get worse in the mornings from all the moisture. I took it to the autoshop at school and they said that whoever put the new brakes on before put them on badly so they need to realign them and put on new pads. No squeeking ever know and the car has lost the stutter it used to have. I'm assuming that the used dealership that sold me the car put new brakes on when they got it and fouled it up.
yeah the squeaking does seem to be an issue. and if its sitting for awhile it might be break dust cause I know if I spray my wheels with break dust remover after a good wash they don't seem to squeak.
squeaking is typically the result of the rust that Nuke mentioned.
sometimes it's due to a bad install and the tech left dirty fingerprints and other crap on the rotors and face of the brake pads.
I suggest you take the wheel off and then pop the caliper off.
take some brake cleaner and spray the heck out of everything. then take the sandpaper mentioned by ndnboy and scuff up the surface of the rotor and the brake pads.
spray it down liberally again. re-assemble
be careful driving around for a few miles. you have changed the wear pattern of the pads/rotor. so they'll take a few applications for a new pattern to wear in. so the brakes won't respond as normal.
wear some latex gloves while you handle the brake components to prevent getting oils on the surfaces. and make sure they are 100% clean before putting back together.
also, make sure your pads are in good condition.
you can reduce the noise a whole lot by making sure it's all clean. but if you live in a wet area (humid), that slight noise is pretty much unavoidable. luckily it's only a quick annoyance that disappears quickly

I noticed I have that slight squeak, too. But it only happens on some early mornings (I leave for work around 6:30am) and only for a quick second. I don't even have to apply the breaks before it stops. Doesn't do it any other time.
But it's also possible its from a combination of things, from humid nights here in Florida, or even the sprinklers that have slight spray on all our cars (I live in an apt. complex).
