Default Problems with Instrument Cluster Upgrade

I have a V6 with no IUP. However, I wanted the upgraded guage cluster with messaging center.

I ordered the parts and went to have them installed this morning. However, the connector that is supposed to be behind the message center switches is not there. Turns out, that the wires are missing from the connector into the guages, too.

This means that my wiring harness is not suited for that guage. I'm sure it can be done, but not with the existing harness.

afixer has a v6 also, but he has traction control (I do not). He was able to do this upgrade on his vehicle. For some reason, he had the switch connector.

I'll let you all know how this pans out... however, in the meantime, before you order the parts, you should pop off the switch dummy cover and make sure you have the connector.

You might give Kevin at Clevenger Ford a call, he has been selling the conversion parts for a while and may have some insight into the installation.

Thanks, I may do that. Do you have any contact information for him that you could send me?

I still may have one option, but it's going to jack the labor way up and I'll probably scream at Ford until they pay for it. Anyways, the connector that goes into the switch has (if it's there) four wires. Two go to pins 6 & 7 (I'm pretty sure) on the connector that hooks to the cluster, one goes to ground and one to the smart junction box.

Might end up having to have the service shop do the wiring but the labor would be high.

My opinion is that the cabling should have been included in the harness. The guage cluster and switch is a legitimate upgrade to the 2005 Mustang and for that reason it should be doable.

I would have bought the IUP had I had an option for it at purchase time.

If you decide that you don't want the upgrade anymore for whatever reason, let me know I might be insterested in buying it off of you.

I didn't know this upgrade was available. Would you let me know where it's available from? You could answer on the forum or pm me. Thanks, Jim

You can order the parts from http://www.fordparts-fordparts-fordparts.com

Ed Olsen is the guy there. He's very pleasant to work with. You'll need the guage cluster w/messaging center and the instrument cluster switch.

It'll be roughly $240-250 with a $300 core charge that will be refunded when you send the original cluster back.

Boozshey, I think I'm still going to put it in. I'm going to fuss at Ford Customer service because I believe it was the factory's responsibility to have the wiring harness complete and in the vehicle.

I thought that I read a while back about this. Someone posted a HOW-TO somewhere. I can't find it though. They said to make sure you had the wires there. I think that Ford stop putting the wires in there on purpose not on accident. I can't imagine Ford biting the cost of installing the wiring harness. Best of luck though and if all else fails just let me know, I won't be buying the upgrade for myself in a while but willing to buy from you if you don't have any luck with Ford.
