Default Magna Flows - Any Drone?

Hi All,

I am planning on putting some Magna Flows on my 2010 GT when it arrives. I am thinking about just the axle backs for a little more deep sound. How about drone, does anyone know if they drone much on the highway?

Thanks!

That depends on who answers your question. Some say they do and some say they don't...

Well, I guess drone is a matter of opinion.... I wish I could hear some. I looked around Youtube but nothing really good on there.

Is there any setup (other than stock) that seems to be a universal agreement on no drone?

FRPP's GTA's? People say they sound great with no drone. Also the FRPP FR500S are supposed to sound amazing....although pricey.

I'll be honest, if there is a drone it is very insignificant. Personally, when I hear the word drone I instantly think of Flowmaster. I had Magnaflow on my 01 Cobra, 03 GT Vert, 04 GTO and now my 10 GT. I will tell you if the drone was "strong" I wouldn't continually put them on my vehicles. In my opinion, Magnaflow...there is no substitute. Everyone has their preference.

I have the FRPP M5230-SA for the 2010 model, M5230-S is for 05-09 model. I love them, money well spent IMHO. Zero drone, tame at idle, nice nasty tone when on it. BTW search KR mufflers on you tube.

Assuming you're talking about Magnaflow Model: 16574, the cheapeast I've found them is for $500 even from lethalperformance. I've been considering these for a couple of weeks. Still wary of drone though.

I put on a set of the axle back Magna Paks and no drone on mine. I really
like the sound. My wife and the people I work with say its a noticeable
difference from stock when I start up, idle and especially when they are
following behind me.

FastDEW, I agree with Wilkinda. Drone is a matter of individual opinion.

What I can tell you is I only have 200 miles on my new GT and IT HAS DRONE with the standard exhaust. It is not loud but you can hear it. With the combination of the 4.6 motor, the 5 spd gear ratios, and the rear end ratios.....at a certain speed/rpm/gear there is definitely built-in DRONE at the often discussed 2000 RPM threshold. It comes standard with the car and those who don't hear it are just not listening for it! (Sorry to all if I am too blunt!)

This said, ANY louder aftermarket exhaust will also have LOUDER drone at some RPM...either at the 2,000 RPM often discussed in this forum or at some other RPM level based on the design of the exhaust system. The trick for each of us is to find where the drone is and determine if it is too irritating at the highway speeds we wish to drive.

Therefore, the only way I know for anyone to buy the right exhaust is to try one already on a GT and drive it at various speeds. There have also been some great member driving video's which demonstrate the "dreaded" drone. Good luck in your search.

FastDEW...by the way I have the Roush exhaust on-order and can't wait to find that "dreaded" drone. The louder the better for me. I want those chevy's and fart can imports to know that a real V8 is coming!!!! Enjoy your search. This is a GREAT Forum with very helpful gear-heads.....
