Default Type 1 or 2 Taillight Harness

I'm getting sequential taillights and the company had to know which type of harness I had. They said, "There are two different kits for your year car, Ford started changing the taillight harness in late 05, there were a mix of the two types in 05,06 and 07 now the change looks complete on the 08 and 09 models."

Mine is a Type 2 Harness. Anyone know why Ford changed them?

Here are the two types;

Wow, in all my time here, that's the first I've heard of that. I put sequentials in my '07 and the g/f's '06 and AM never asked me about the harness. Live and learn...

never heard of it either. could be a number of things, change in availability from a source, design change to facilitate the use in other ford cars like perhaps the 2010 which now comes factory with sequentials..dunno.

Anyone have a 2010 that can comment on what the tailight harness looks like?

They changed vendors and hence changed the design.
One vendor does it one way with the moulding
equipment he has and another vendor does it
with what hes gots...
Ford gets what theys gets...

I'd be willing to put money up that the 'Type 2' harness saved them a couple pennies a piece (no electrical tape to have to wrap) and that's the reason they changed them.

But isn't the connector on the end the same and if so, why would it matter WHICH type you had?

Both my Stangs are type 2. Just pull up your trunk mat and unbolt the plastic piece that covers half of the taillight bolts and check. You'll be able to tell right away.

I think it really matters if you are doing the splice in kit. We ran into this on both of our 06's.

Because some cheap cut and splice sequentials
have to snake a wire out to the third bulb assembly
and its darn near impossable to do with one or the
other types of harnesses.
