Default Tune with NO intake?

So I ordered an SCT tuner from Brenspeed last week. I didn't order an aftermarket intake with it and I'm curious how well the tune will be on a stock car. Anyone done this? If I get 15-20whp peak and a fatter curve, I'd be thrilled.

I ran bama's 89tq tune w/o an intake for a few months. I gained about 10-12RWHP and about 10 RWTQ. The car was more responsive. Adding the intake helped even more.

the tune provides a good deal of the gains when you talk about CAI/Tune combo. You will notice it for sure. you should get 15-20 HP boost with it.

This is assume you use 93 Oct tunes. results are less with lesser gas

Is it worth my time to buy an intake? I keep hearing the intake is only worth a few hp, less than 5 or so. The point of conjecture is an intake is $200 or so, with that same money I could probably find a most cost effective way to go faster, like aftermarket LCAs.

Althought the tune IS the larger percentage of the power gain, the CAI & tune combo are made for one another. The tune WILL allow you to get a few more ponies out of a CAI than you'd get from the CAI alone. Additionally, the combo works well if and when you decide to do other mods that allow the engine to breath more such as cams, LT's and THEN perhaps an aftermarket TB (although the gains from the TB are questionable unless you're heavily modded internally or FI).

Look at it this way: the extra 5-7 or so RWHP of adding the CAI with the tune is equal to or better than the the cost of other mods that add lesser RWHP such as UDP's, delete plates...

Makes sense.

I think the next "go" mod will be gears. I just want 12.9999999's out of this thing.

yes, IMO, if you're thinking about a tune, you should also get a CAI...and a less restrictive exhaust (if yours is still stock)

Don't let this fool you: the stock exhaust flows fine. Changing anyting beyond the stock H pipe will only yield changes in sound. The only gians to be had with exhaust work are from headers and/or an O/R X or H.
