Hi and Welcome aboard. '05 - '09 are virtually the same. Each year just has minor tweaks and some things tossed in here and there. A few quick things that comes to mind is the aux input for audio is only available '07 and up, the same with the ambiance lighting. '09 is the 45th anniversary "edition" which comes with it's own emblem if that perks your interest. You can check out some of the stickies about TSB's. Grats on getting a stang, but make sure you do your research to get the right stang you want, price point, etc. If you're going to a dealer/used lot, don't go empty handed

- 05 and 06 have the highest number of mechanical issues (Sorry Alkemist)
- Build dates of May 08 and Later fix the two piece spark plug problem on the 4.6L
- HID headlights are only availabe on 07 and up I believe.
- Certain colors like Grabber Orange and Windveil blue are only available certain years
- The GlassBack roof is only available on late 08 and 09
- If you plan on getting a strut tower brace, 05 and 06 have clearance issues on the hood liner. This is not a problem on the 07 and up.

- yeah, no prob Personally I wanted to stay away from '05 being first generation s197. (I ended up settling for '06 due to price and features at that price lol. IMO, I would go '07-'09.)
- Think screaming yellow was for '06 and maybe '05, then it switches over to grabber orange. Huge color difference if you like the yellow variety.
- '07+ have the tire sensors, which can be a pain when it comes to switching your wheels/tires.

Let's see what I can add off the top of my pointy head...
  • Certain colors are only available certain years (i.e., Legend Lime in '05 & '06 only)
  • The water leak issue (see the TSB's) is more prevalent on the '05 and '06's but still lingering around a bit through the later years
  • The additional 15 crank HP of the '10 is nothing more than a mild tune revision over the '05 - '09 that can be bettered by a good CAI & tune combo

FWIW I've had no mechanical issues with my '06. Sonic Blue and Mineral grey only available in '05. '05's had some issues with gas pump nozzles shutting off. Ford will replace the gas tank for free. 3.55:1 rear gears became optional instead of standard on '07(?) and up manual transmission cars.
