Default Quick exhaust question

Okay, I planned on taking my car to a local exhaust shop tomorrow to get some work done. Planned on getting, in essence, an offroad h-pipe. Haven't heard much from people that have gone this route, most people go with something like a Pypes H-pipe. Any reason why?

Also, would it be just as efficient to just splice in a bit of pipe in place of the cats, or should I get the shop to run a complete pipe all the way back?

Thanks guys,

Eric

hey man i just put in headers with an X pipe and though its different then the H pipe I had to add in new CATS that they sent me to replace the stock CATS. Well your cats have O2 sensors in them and if your take them out along with the O2 sensors its probablly gonna set off a check engine light. What I did was took the new cats that they sent me and I hollowed out all of the metal honeycomb that they have inside the CATS to give them a better sound. I also had a specific tune that i added that ignored the rear O2 sensors. Not sure if you can do that with the stock cats but its just an idea.

The stock H-pipe, even without the cats, is a little more restrictive than an aftermarket H-pipe would be. The 2.5" pipe is crimped/reduced right before the cats.

You'll need a tune to turn off the O2 sensors.

the pypes h pipe is an o/r h pipe.
it may be difficult to splice in some pipe where the cats are since they are so close to the manifolds.
i would just buy an o/r h pipe, either pypes or summit bc that's all you are going to find, and put it in place of your stock h pipe. it may be cheaper than having a shop do a custom job.

They couldn't just put new sensor bungs in the same place?

if there are no cats you will get a CEL. you will need to get a tuner to turn the rear O2 sensors off.

Not to mention many shops won't do the work if it means violating any EPA laws. I have seen that posted a few times in the forums.

any good welder can weld in the bung hole for the sensors. you don’t need to buy some cats just to gut them only for the pre made hole. <<<<<that sounds funny.

give a shop cash payment and they will do just about anything. no paper trail means %100 deniability and they won’t have to pay the taxes.
