Ford tech question...
How many of you guys are actual Ford techs or have some sort of formal training on Ford automobiles?
Reason I am asking is because I am starting to doubt my schooling in becoming an ASE certified Ford tech. I want to tune/ modify and race cars- built for the 1/4 mile or 650whp street cars. I have no desire in fixing other peoples cars or working on a car that requires fixing that a racing related incident did not create.
I am having a hard time believeing that I need to know about a Micro 490 or how to use any of the dozen diagnostic machines I am learning about, in order to fix a car.. much less have any relavence in my future as a performance oriented mechanic..
honestly, I just wanted to do this program because it was only a 2 year program.. vs a 4-5 year one with gen auto. There are so much work on theory and online web based training, in the last 8 months, I feel like I could have benefited more if I had just worked in a shop- working, fixing and doing the grunt work.. rather being an "online mechanic"...
This is my second semester, and though I know more than I have before, I still feel like I don't know jack shiet and even further away from my goal in becoming an actual "tuner"/performance mechanic..

Find a good speed shop and work their while you learn the basics then going to your feild should be easier. Maybe work with a race team on the weekends.never hurts to know other thing even if not used everyday.

Thanks for the advice. I was just bummed earlier because I was doing one of my (SOOOOOO very many) online exams and I was questioning why in the world I had to know any of whatever I was studying, in relation to performance/racing/tuning...
Get's tiring after doing so many already.
And yet, still no blower on my car lol.
