when you install the whipple, what tune
do you plan to run at that point?

You'll definetly gain more with a tune, but not sure if it's safe to run it without one.

you have to have it tuned by a shop when you install cams

I would highly recommend that you call Brenspeed. They've done a few on the dyno with those cams including a members here on the forum. They sent me the tune for the cams when I bought them and the car runs great. I'd spend a little money and buy the tune from them to be on the safe side.

I originally thought my car would not run without a tune after i installed the cams. I was wrong, the car idled just as good if not better and ran fine.

ok based on the order in which you
want to do these mods, the solution
as crazy as it may seem, would be....

purchase an SCT xcal3 from brenspeed,
on the xcal would be 2 tunes.
tune 1 - stock gt with hot rod cams.
tune 2 - stock gt + whipple HO + hot rod cams.

however you end up doing it, good luck and
it sounds like an interesting combo.

you need a tune if you want to run well, its not too safe w/o one, but it can be done
