vortec supercharger not in cold weather The Netherlands
hi,
Was here also yesterday after years i have installed the vortec ho it was my dream but became a nightmare .In The Netherlands it is not extreme cold in the winter....but vortec told me this,......
vortec mail:
what im saying is if you operate the unit in weather below 32 deg f you will damage the supercharger. It is not covered under the warranty because we do supply information stating that it is not recommended. I have not received an answer yet as to the cause of the trouble codes.
if i knew this before i had never done this....

Here you go: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/s...d.php?t=121291
As the guy from Vortech said in that forum, you CAN use it in sub-freezing temps as long as the engine is up to operating temp. Until then, stay out of boost. That's what they're trying to get at and I mis-understood in your last post.
It makes sense b/c even without any form of FI, you don't want to hammer on your engine until it's warmed up. Race cars of all types do not go ***** out on the track until the engine has warmed. I know with my motorcycle if I get on the throttle hard before it's warmed up it'll sputter and run like crap. Once it's warmed and the oils are circulating properly, it hauls *****.

We have a lot colder weather that that here is US even in the south. SC of all kinds run fine. You should always warm up your car SC or not but apart of that there should not be an issue. There should be a Huge disclaimer when you buy this **** if thats the case. But I personally think they are just giving you the run around and do not want to deal with your problem.

i asked them to stay out of boost if that is safe in cold weather and this was there respons
No.... it has nothing to do with driving the car after it warms up... the problem occurs on start up. your oil is cold (so its thick)your motor is cold(metal expands) your supercharger is cold(metal expands) the expansion causes the tolerances to get much smaller then designed. this plus the lack of oil due to cold temps causes the bearings and gears to spin without oil creating heat and failure.
do and where can i buy a block heather??

Ok so I've done some more reading around on this and it seems this problem only exists on the SQ-trim Vortech because of the tight tolerances. The others do not seem to have this problem.
Now I'm curious if any other supercharger besides Vortech is like this.

Geez guys, it has nothing to do with the Vortech or any other blower.
Who ever installed this thing for him, doesn't have a freaking clue!
The weather's too cold...
Ralph, I gave you the infos of my buddy in Belgium a while back, that installed Vortechs on Mustangs before...
You're prolly 2 to 3 hours away from him, I guaranty you that he can make this car run.
He's a Ford dealer BTW.
At least call him on my behalf if you want.
This is what he is used to work on... a lot more challenging cars.
The gray one was a total loss because of a flood, but he fixed it.
It's on the road every weekends
