Default Need Help Boys

Just got back from the dealer and ordered the new 2011 GT. I stuck with the standard 3.31 axle. A 3.55 and 3.73 were available. Not an expert but what are the pros and cons?

This shouldn't even be in the 5.0 section IMO. Completely diff engine.

Higher ratio = more acceleration + lower top speed.

Why would the OP want anything more than 3.31's. Everyone knows that 2.73 gears are the best gears for acceleration There are no cons with 2.73's.

The 3:55, and 3:73 gears will give you better acceleration. The 3:31s are better for gas milage, but only slightly. If I were you I'd have gone with one of the other choices.

The 3.73 gear gives you more torque. It takes torque to get the car moving. Better torque means faster acceleration.

I have 4.10's

+1^^

I would have definitely gone with either the 3.55's or the 3.73's in lieu of the 3.31's.

I have 3.31's in my 10' and I hate them so much. You should go back and get the 3.73's if you don't you'll be wishing you would of and eventually switch them out for a lower gear. I can't wait till I get some 3.73's

go with the 3.73s imo.... the car will feel like it has 100 more HP compared to the 3.31s. With the con being lower top speed, your only talking theoretical top speeds anyway. The car doesn't have enough power to hit its mechanical top speed, so you have to go with its wind resistance limited top speed.

Say the 3.31s theoretical is 220 and the 3.73s theoretical is 200, the 3.31 can only push against the wind with enough force to hit 150, where as the mechanical advantage gained with the 3.71s you might actually be able to hit a little faster, say 160. So you actually gain acceleration and top speed the way our cars are set up. Unless you have enough power to hit the mechanical top speed. Which you wont.

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone who helped me make a great decision. I quickly called the dealer and replaced the 3.31 with the 3.73 for the 2011.

Thanks!!!!
