Aren't we not supposed to run chains on these cars? I know my manual has a note about it; not sure if it's just GTs or V6s too...

Do chains work very well though? I've never used them, but I would personally make sure to have winter tires if any RWD car is going to be driven regularly in the snowy stuff.

You say that now, but if one of those chains were to break loose and start slapping your quarter panel then you'd be wishing you had gotten tires. Honestly, in Texas I wouldn't waste my money on anything like that. Here in MA it snows a little, and I have never, not once, seen anybody using chains. Either you stay home, or you go a way that will be plowed with no hills. I would never use chains on anything I own, I'd rather get stuck and have somebody help me get out.

Oh and I was just talking to my dad, he said chains work great on ice, but don't do much in just snow.

No one is talking about "running" chains on their car. What the posts say is that if you get stuck you put these on to get out of a bad spot then take them off. (I guess I should have been more clear on that).
As I said, I have never had to use them, It's just nice to know I have them.

I have no issue with using chains to go 30 feet.

I bought a set of chains cuz the law says I have to have them or snow tires to cross the passes. They will never see the outside of my trunk though, cuz if the weather is bad enough that I have to put them on, I will either drive the wifes jeep or keep my *** at home.

To the OP, is your car lowered at all?

X2

I'm talking about having a set in the trunk for those rare instances where even snow tires can't get you out of the bad snow/ice. I didn't mean have a pair thrown on every time it snows.

bluoval, no, my car is not lowered.

If you only want to drive 30 feet or so, I would consider carrying a bag of sand, a shovel, and some traction runners.
