Default Interior / dash question

Does anyone know if the piece of the dash that is just above the glove box, (but below the airbag) is an individual piece or is it fixed to the entire dash assembly? I managed to scratch mine pretty good, right in the middle (see pics).

If this panel cannot be replaced, does anyone have any tips or pointers on how to remove this scratch?

The air bag comes out from behind the aluminum trim, so that piece can be removed without much trouble.
People that fix seats damaged with cigarette burns might be able to help you there...

Have you tried rubbing vinyl protectant on it to see if it goes away? Another option might be one of those Mr. Clean erasers but I'd try it on a hidden area first. It took black scuff marks off my gray kick panels in the LS. Good luck with it and let us know if you get it fixed.

that part IS part of the entire dash skin. It cannot be removed without removing the entire dash. Not really much you can do other than get advice on how to rub it out. I have had to remove my entire dash to replace it thanks to a girl friends high heel gouge.

I have also removed a few of these to have them "glassed over" and painted as well. The skin isnt terribly hard to remove. It takes about 4 hours but the last two screws that are all the way in the back up by the glass face backwards and have 7mm heads and are a SERIOUS B**CH. I left them out putting my dash back in. The dash has giude dowels in the back anyway.

Just my 2 cents.....

Damn, that sucks.
No taking the whole thing apart then.
I assume it was better made but you know what happen when you assume?lol.
You get burned.

I can't think of any cars that are easy at taking the dash out.
Big undertaking on today's cars...

Honestly, this dash is FAAAAAAAAAAR easier to remove than the SN95!!! Our dashes come out as more of a skin leaving almost all the wiring and A/C heater core still attached to the metal frame. chilton book time for the SN95 dash was 12 hours, the new S197 is only 5.
