Default How much do they weigh?

I recently sold my 2010 GT 18" rims/tires on Ebay. I had upgraded to 19" OEM rims.

When the 19" rims came via FedEx, each was in its own box, and each box said its contents weighed 60 lbs.

So, when I shipped my 18" rims to the buyer via UPS, I estimated 60 lbs, and was actually billed for 72 lbs. The packages were left on my porch and picked up while I was at work.

Now, four days later, UPS is billing my credit card for more money, stating that two of the boxes weighed 93 lbs, one weighed 96 lbs, and one weighed 105 lbs!

How much can an 18" rim/tire with air weigh? There was nothing else in the boxes with the rims/tires except a 2 ft x 1 ft sheet of bubble wrap. I lifted each rim/tire into the box, and I have a hard time believing they weigh much more than 60 lbs or even 72 lbs . . .

I sold my stock 18s, when I had them, if i remember they weighed 58lbs each with tire.

When you ship and have UPS pick up the tires from you they always charge you more later. I shipped a set of wheels and tires and left them for UPS to pick up. They charged me $50 per wheel to pick them up and ship them. A week later they charged my credit card an additional $10 each wheel for "additional handling charges" It was irritating to be charged more than I was originally quoted, but their customer service absolutely refused to refund the additional charge.

Well, with mine, they charged me $207 more (on top of the original $158)!

$107 of that was the additional weight for the 4 boxes. The other was $50x2 for two of the boxes being "oversized." Essentially, they decided two of the boxes were a few inches longer than I reported, and that (barely) put the total calculation into the "large box surcharge" category. Funny thing here, I quoted the boxes as 24 x 24 x24 when they were actually only 23". Yet, they still decided to add girth.

The real burner for me, they were all the same size boxes!

So, essentially, they charged me a total of $365 to ship four rims/wheels from Michigan to Maryland.

No way I'm paying this. I'll put the credit card charge into dispute first. Funny how they sent me the notice on a Saturday, while their billing department won't be open until Monday.

Wow, I can't believe how expensive the shipping is. I guess I got lucky. Last summer I bought 4 GT wheels & tires from New Take Off. I had some questions, so I called my order in, rather than placing it on line. The guy who took my order was great. He asked if there was any business that had a forklift close to me where the wheels could be delivered. There's a small business a block from me, and I know the owner. The owner told me no problem. New Take Off was then able to ship them via common carrier. The wheels were stacked on a pallet, and then wrapped in shrink wrap. Only took 2 days before they got here. Total cost for shipping all 4 wheels and tires. $60. I guess if you're getting tires, be sure and check out all your options.

$150 or so is actually reasonable for four rims with tires.

$365 is not.

Not to be off topic, but where did you get your 19" OEM wheels?

Ebay. Asking price was $1300 for the rims/tires (with 1000 miles on them). I paid $1175, shipping included.

The seller was a good guy, too. Easy to work with.

UPS has agreed to refund the whole $207. So, they keep my business . . .
