Transmission Flush

Transmission Flush
Received a notice via email today from the Ford dealer where we purchased our 2006 Pony Package. Said something like "our records show that the mileage on your Ford vehicle should be approx 30,000 miles (which was accurate). A transmission flush is now required to keep your Ford vehicle operating properly and not compromise your extended warranty".
I've never heard of an automatic transmission flush at 30,000....much less it having anything to do with our extended warranty (which I have my doubts about anyways).
Any thoughts? Is this something to consider or is it just a dealership looking for money and/or a make work project for the junior techs?

Look over your extended warranty and see if theres a maintance schedule, if you plan to keep your Mustang a long time it is good to keep your tranny fluid clean. I have the PA trans pan with the dipstick, it holds 4 extra qts and will make my tranny run cooler.

I have a MT on my Stang but as I recall on my other Ford they do call for a fluid and filter change every 30,000 miles on an AT which I have always done. The "flush" is an extra cost option the dealer likes to sell and is NOT required by Ford. So do get the fluid & filter change. I'm no expert but I have read some things that say the "flush" can disturb particles in the transmission and can do more harm than good. So if the trans is working good, why fool with it, just maintain it.

I would stay away from a transmission flush. Far, far away. A friend of mine took his Explorer to his Ford dealer for a 60,000 mile routine service. The dealer flushed the transmission, blew out a seal, apparently drove the SUV with no fluid, telephoned my friend to tell him he needed a replacement transmission at a cost of $2500, and that there must have been a defect when he brought it in. Right.
I stay far, far away from that dealer. Anyway, flushing a transmission can be a rather risky thing.

If the flush caused something to break, the trans had a defect or worn out part about to go out anyway.
I had a flush done on mine last June (close to 60K miles I think) and I'm glad I did. It eliminated some clunking I was getting and this weird swooshing noise my torque converter would make when going from locked->un locked->locked went away, which is great b/c that drove me mad.
If you don't do some kind of flush with a sealed trans like the 5r55s, you will not replace all the fluid. You don't want to do that just like you would not want to only replace half of your engine oil every time either.
Also, it's not necessary to use a special expensive trans flushing machine to flush it either. You can use the trans' own pump to pull the new fluid in and push the old out. It can be its own flushing device.

You'll find mixed opinions. I think 30,000 miles is too early and MIGHT suggest you wait until 60,000 miles or as much as 100,000 if you expect to keep the car beyond that. I've flushed auto trannys as early as 75,000 and as late as 150,000 on cars that I kept beyond 200,000 miles.

here is the write up when I changed my ATF

I did it 2 times to get most of the old fluid out, still cost me less than the Steelership.
