Default Optimal shifting RPM's for Daily Driving

Like the title says, I feel as if I'm either bogging >1500 or over revving 2700< during daily driving. I have 3.55's.

For example, when going through a parking lot or at low speeds of around 10-12mph....I feel if I shift into 1st, its to jerky/over revving. But if I shift into 2nd than it feels(or more like IS) bogging...

I usually cruise in the tallest gear without bogging...I.E. @30ish I'm at in 3rd around 1700-1800rpm's.

What I'm really asking is: What is the 4.6L's 'sweet spot'? ....In general, what is best for the 1.engine 2.tranny 3.fuel/etc.

Also, what is the "best/normal" rpm's to shift at when starting from a dead stop? 1st->2nd->3rd->4th->5th

I know that that is kind of a broad question, I just want to know whats best for the engine, tranny, clutch, etc. for normal driving...And I would guess that fuel usage and how you treat you powertrain/drivetrain would go hand in hand?

Thanks guys,

I shift around 2K in all gears. I did this with both my 3.31's and my 4.10's. Being easy on the throttle getting up to whatever RPM you're shifting at will obviously help too. I don't like to cruise at 2K, 1700 or less feels fine (with 4.10s). It might be tough for me to say without driving your car. Cruise at whatever RPM you feel gives your car enough power to make a sudden jump without feeling/sounding like it's revving too hard to maintain that speed.

Whatever feels best to you.

For optimum fuel mileage I progressive shift. IE I take off in 2nd and 2-3 at 1200 rpm, 3-4 is about 1400 rpm and 4-5 is about 1600 rpm. Im in OD by 35 mph. I only downshift if I drop below 1000 rpm. I get 19-20 mpg City.

If I'm on a flat I can cruise in 5th at 35-40mph and not feel bogged...

So 1000-1500 is not bogging in (normal driving/not up hills/etc)? 30mph in 5th is fine? wow...I remember freaking out on my friend when I let him drive my car and he shifted into 5th@30mph...."dude, your totally bogging down my engine! get back in 3rd" lol...

I mean, I know every car is different and drive style/etc. but this is my first manual and I always thought that I was bogging at those low rpm's. And taking off in 2nd(w/ 3.55's) is not going to hurt anything? I'm going to try a new style tomorrow. I thought I was going to have to wait to get 4.10s before being able to start off in 2nd->4th->5th

Thanks for all of the help guys, everyone in my family has automatics....h3ll, almost all my friends have auto's too, except for a few imports that rev to 8k...So I've never really had someone critic me with the right knowledge.
