Default drivers seat problem- advice requested!

there is a vertical metal bar right up against the upholstery (cloth) of my 08 GT. the bar is on the right side of my back, when im sitting on it, going from my waist to my shoulder. it appears like it must have ripped through the cloth, probably because its extra wear from me being a fatass. (hey, call a spade a spade here.) im over my factory warranty, and my extended wont cover it, because its not electrical. dealer advised me the part was 200+ and would be 560+/- with labor to repair. they said i would need to replace the entire upper foam, as it comes as one part.

i cant find ANY information on the net about the seat's internal workings, photos, text, nothing....which if anyone has, especially photos, it would help me!

should i:

a) take to 3rd party upholstery/interior shop to re-wrap with foam (assuming dealer's diagnosis was correct, which i am, because they got ford to pay for a new transmission, after NUMEROUS modifications including a high stall torque converter...they are nice guys.)

b) pay for the part and try to repair myself

c)pay for ford to do it

d) junkyard seat/parts

e) aftermarket seat assembly

f) something else???

its not wearing on the upholstery...at least not visibly, and not yet....but it will shortly im sure.

Well, you could buy nice new seats or take it to an upholstery shop and have them repair it. If it's fixable they'll know how. I'd go for the new seats, but then again I'm a sucker for spending $$ on my cars lol.

i did find what i THINK is the upper foam padding peice on a ford parts website for 120ish, is this something i can do at home?

New Take Off has a whole set of black cloth seat covers for $89.

Junk yard. There are more and more 05+'s finding their way there these days. Normally the seats wear well, certainly better than a race orientated seat like Corbeaus, so you should hit pay dirt fairly easily.
Also, changing to an aftermarket seat will create issues with SRS becoming non functional as well as other codes

Since you're gonna mess the new ones as well...........: Bone yard.
You prolly messed up the foam, so you need a complete seat.

You can bolt it on but make sure it secure so it doesn't go off on you, lol.
Keep it under the seat with tie-wraps.

i took the seat out today, didnt manage to get the upholstery all the way off, seems like its pinched on the bottom and id have to dissasemble the whole thing (not happening)...but i did manage to get my hand inside of it far up enough (giggity) to feel the foam rip, and its definitley all it is. just need new foam....local boneyard has no 05-09 mustangs whatsoever. gotta call a few more that arent that local.
