Default First Real Mod - Axle Backs

So I did my first "real" mod to my 2007 GT/CS vert today. My only previous mod was an 8" shorty antenna!

Anyway, my buddy, who is a mechanic, and I installed a set of Flowmaster American Thunder Classics (part 817460). Here are my initial thoughts:

Pros: Love the black, square shape and the large tips. Love the sound even more. I wasn't looking for a ton of volume, I just wanted a nice, deep, throaty sound. These certainly fit the bill while still adding some volume.

Cons: The tips on the mufflers were not welded on completely straight. One is aimed down a little bit and the other is aimed to the right some. Would have liked to have seen some better quality control on that. Some drone between 1500-1900 RPM, but that may change over time as the mufflers "break-in".

Anyway...when I have the $$$, next up will be a CAI and Tuner (with custom tunes) so I can get a real kick in the pants!!

- Matt

PS...I'll try to take some pics tomorrow and post them.

So an update. Tomorrow I am taking off the Flowmasters and sending them back. The drone has just increased over time. I spend about 20 miles a day on the highway back and forth to work and I cruise right in the drone range. It can get mind numbing at times...seriously.

So I'm going to be on the look out for another set of Axel backs. I'll start another thread on that one I guess to get opinions on ideas.

I see you're from PA, by any chance were you in the North Wales area today? I saw a white GT/CS vert that sounded really good

ha ha...nope...wasn't me. Though I'm not far from there. Down in southern chester county (west grove, kennett square area). And my vert is black.

We should try to organize a Philly area mustang drive someday.

That would be tight, I'd definitely be in

the drone on Flowmasters isnt that bad and in that rpm range the only axle backs that arent going to drone will be Corsa's or stock mufflers.....

the drone is just going to get worse as the mufflers break in. get GTAs, Corsas, or leave the stockers on if you dont want the drone. and as for quality in Flowmasters, i don't think thats possible, lol.

Cool...thanks for the feedback. I think I'll have to add JBA's to my list of possibilities.
