what do you need to do when switching from factory synthetic blend to fully synthetic oil like mobil 1? do you have to flush old oil first with something?

 

Drain the old oil and change the filter...fill with the new oil ...pretty much it!

 

i was at a dyno day this past weekend and was told you have to flush the old oil out first to switch to fully synthetic. we were told this by the owner of the hot rod shop that was having the dyno day!!!

 

Hogwash. You could mix full syn and a syn blend 50/50 and be alright. No issue. Just drain and fill.

 

I totally agree, I'm due for my oil change soon. I'm switching to Mobil 1 as well. Just drain and put on a new oil filter and add the oil.

 

I run Amsoil and according to their website...no special actions are needed to change to their oil...drain... change filter and fill...

 

just drain it and fill, and yes you can switch back to dino or a blend at anytime.

 

Just put it in! Pep Boys has been running a sale, 5qts of Royal Purple plus a Royal Purple synthetic oil filter $49.99, DO IT, DO IT!

Consider this - if you actually did try to flush it out, you'd wash down parts that are better off left with a thin film of oil on them, and also be left with a small amount of solvent-y mix in the pan instead of an equal amount of just engine oil that is in fact approved for use.

I hear people dispute this all the time.

It doesnt matter. if it did they wouldnt make synthetic blends.

I do prefer to stick to one brand and type of oil tho. Not constantly jump around. Its fine to switch back and forth tho as long as you stick to the reccomended intervals for the type of oil your using.
