Mine only pinged in the summer and probably only 5-10 times before I figured out what was happening.

Same with me, it started in the summer. If I try and cover all the bases maybe 20 times for me??? In reality it was probably more like 15, which I know is still a lot but the car runs 100% now so I guess everything's straight?

Pinging isn't good but it's not automatically an engine killer. If you're worried about the motor then you could check the motor with a pressure gauge and see if it's in spec.
