Default Shorties....need tuning???

I am considering a set of Ford Racing headers for my '05 GT. Will I experience the dreaded "CEL" light, hence requiring some tuning??

1). Your set-up and experiences after a "shorty" header installation.

2). Who's headers and why?

3). Any problems?....What & why"

I'm considering the non-coated header from Ford Racing (M-9430-S197).
Any suggestion and/or recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks

No CEL for that mod and no tune for shorties

1) I have JBA shorties - if you're good with the wrench allow about 10 - 12 hours - you will be disconnecting the steering shaft, motor mounts, starter, etc. Consider going to solid motor mounts at the same time - power increase with shorties is minimal but it improved to sound IMO

2) If you're doing shorties vs long tubes, most would probably say JBA - good quality and 50 state legal

3) No problems, just a lot of research prior to do install

Good luck! Hardest install I've EVER done

I have had the FRPP, uncoated shorties for 4+ years. No tuning required. They are about the same amount of labor to install as long tubes. If I had mine to do over I would go for the long tubes.

I would recomend motor mounts. I had to install them after I did the shorties. Wasn't that bad.

I did shorties for the ceramic coating. Went with FRPP after sending a set of bbk's back for poor quality.

If you are doing the work then at least put ceramic coated in. There's a used set of frpp's for sale on another forum for $200 shipped.

On a side note: JBA are carb legal for 2005 model year only. BBK has been going through the process for over a year and still no cert.

Default A New Round Of Questions - Shorty Header Install

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all your input.

I have chosen to install a set of new, uncoated FRPP shorties. This raises a new set of questions surrounding this installation.

1). In two replies, I heard the need for motor mount replacement. Why???

2). I would like to avoid leakage and/or gasket blow-out. Can anyone recommend a good set of header gaskets?...I am also installing the "E" clip type locking header bolts. Any suggestions for a source to purchase these items???

1) Certain motor mounts will raise the motor about half of an inch, giving you more clearance over the steering shaft.

1) I would like to hear this answer too, I didn't change my mounts and all is cool with my car.

2) I used the gaskets and hardware that came with the shorties, it's been 4+ years no leaks no blow outs. I have heard others mention that the E-clips wouldn't work at all the bolt locations, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks again for the replies,

I didn't look at the set-up, but I'm suspectant that the need for motor mount(s) are due to fit tolerances compatively from vehicle-to-vehicle and/or motor mount cushion sag/collapse
resulting in reduced clearance for the header.

Can anyone who has attempted without success/or uses the "E" clip header bolts with success let me know... I used them on a vehicle many years ago with positive results. I would be installing them for the added assurance. Poor fit/partial fit would be senseless where I would revert to the supplied hardware/bolts.
Thanks again...
