Is your 2010 a base model, lacking ambient lighting? Or you want to add additional lighting to the center console specifically?

No, nothing that lights up the shifter/center console specifically. you could probably install a couple LEDs in the map light enclosure, and tap into the wiring for power.

Go with Red LEDs. My W8 had them and it made reading everything much easier, red is easy in the eyes and its also not bright enough to cause a distraction.

to be honest, the ambient lighting is an expensive gimmick

I didn't even know I had it for 1-2 months. one night my daughter asked why my floorboards glowed red. I've played with it a few times since then, but always just turn it off after a few minutes.

it's distracting

agreed. I rarely use it, the only time it is actually on is when my girlfriend is in the car and she likes to keep switching colors every few minutes. I could honestly do without it.

I wish mine had it, but its probably just like "my color" and gets boring after a while.
