Thermostat Question
http://www.brenspeed.com/hyp1011.html
Would a car with bolt ons gain/loose anything with a lower thermostat? Lower temps usually equals better performance, but I assume the factory put in the 180 thermostat instead of the thermostat for a reason. Are these meant for FI engines or what?
Also worth notting that I live in SoCal, where its 85+ all year round.

i dont have experience with this, but i never have seen or heard of anybody who has gotten performance gains from a thermostate, it would be a pretty cheap bolt on iif there was. i personally dont see how this could increase your engines performance, its not letting in more air, its not giving you more cumbustion power, its not losing rotating mass. i just dont see how this could benefit a person besides a person who lives in So Cal like us, or a person whos afraid of having there car sieze up.

Cooler engine temps generally equal cooler intake air temps. Cooler air is denser air and denser air requires more fuel which mean more power. To what extent this thermostat would help that . . . probably not very much.

I know the S197's have a 192 degree thermostat on them. I talked to the guy that tuned my mustang and he said that the stock one is ample enough. He also said that the S197's do not run "right" with a lower thermostat. In my opinion i dont see why it wouldnt work better though.

ditto, our cars *late models* don't relate to cooler is better, all late models not just ford but all run optimally with higher temps, I installed a 180* several yrs ago and threw a code so back to 195* thermostat.
