Default Is a tune worth it?

I just bought a 2011 5.0 with the 6 speed manual last week. Loving it!
I was looking at some of the tunes available from SCT and Liversport (sp?), has anyone had experience with these? Also there appears to be a factory tune coming soon right?

Anyway, I'm conflicted because, I don't really need another 20 or 30 hp. I mean, 412 is already PLENTY for me. Is a tune going to decrease reliability or mpg? If so, I may just stay stock. What's everyone's opinion on tuning the 5.0?

thanks!

not much real world info about tuning the 2011's
but, if it were me, i would wait until i get a few mods together and then tune it when it needs to.
it wont hurt your MPG's, only your lead foot will hurt MPG's
but i'll bet you didnt get a Mustang to save gas
not sure what Liversport is.

Getting a tune is a no brainer. It does a lot more than 20 or so more HP. It can very likely increase the MPG and will not hurt anything. You'll also get a much better throttle response and higher rev limiter. This engine can handle very high revs.

Give it a few weeks and 412 (435 actually) will no longer be enough.

Liversport...LOL! I think you're confusing two different companies. Livernois Motorsports and DiabloSport.

That's right, I was thinking Livernois. Anyway, I called Livernois this morning to ask about their hand held tuner, and they said it would make another 20 rwhp on 91 octane. It's available now for about $400. Tempting. Not sure if I would notice a 5% gain, however. Also, they confirmed their belief that the five-o is underrated: they said their dynojet was brand new and just calibrated, and that they pulled 391 rwhp in stock form. The only explanation for that is an underrated engine.

If you think you have plenty of performance now, whats the point? Why take a chance on more engine wear and possibly screwing your warranty?

I know people will refer to the Magnussun-Moss warranty act and say they can't void your warranty, but the fact is, they sure as hell can. At least until you actually pay a lawyer, wait 6-8 months for your case to be heard...Who wants to go through that with the car not getting fixed during that whole period? For some, it's worth the risk, for others it just isn't.

A tune is great but if you're happy as is, leave it as is imo.

Extra engine wear...nope.

Warranty? It's quite easy to return to stock tune if you go to a butthurt dealer.

once you retune that car with anyone other than ford, kiss your warranty goodbye!. the ecu picks up on when it was over-written even after it was sent back to factory settings. i've had plenty of service techs to tell me this. you just spent like 35k why ruin the warranty over $400?????

The FRPP CAI and tune, when it appears, will most likely void the warranty because the Ford dealer installs the tune and it's in there and he knows it's there. If you go after-market (such as Steeda/SCT), then you can return everything to stock when you have to visit the dealership for warranty work.

The advantage, in my opinion, is not so much the hp gain, (minimal at best), but improved throttle response, less torque management, and a higher rev limit, giving a better all round driving experience. However, I find at the moment that the 2011 is much better in this regard than my '06 was and so not in a hurry to install a new intake/tune. I believe that the parameters on the computors have been tweeked over the 4.6 and am going to wait a while till we see what else comes out and how these new tunes work out.

Cheers.
