Angry I need REAL HELP diagnosing this sound PLEASE!

I recently had gears, cams, BBK long tube headers, and a BBK high flow catted x installed on my car.

Well... I had a buzzing noise coming from below the passenger seat up to the glove box.
Took it back in and they adjusted a bolt that seemed to be hitting another part of the car....drove home a couple of hours thought everything was cool. Well... that except a small buzzing sound from the center of the front of the car near the radio.
The guy at the shop said he thought it was maybe the headers causing vibration on the heat shields of the car and said it was pretty much something you live with. We could see no part that looked close to making contact.
It was not bad at this point.

Get it home and now I am having that sound but it has moved to the center of the car near the stereo and behind it.
Sometimes it is light but sometimes it is LOUD and the vibration really buzzes.
I noticed that since I had been driving home a couple of hours... maybe heat made it worse.

When I was home for about an hour every time my car went to 1k RPM when coasting it would do this BADLY.
(that actually as low as it goes in coast because it had a hunting R PM)
So bad that I cannot stand it.

I don't have the money or time right now to drive all the way back up to the DFW area again til at least the last of this month.
I was hoping I could take it to a muffler shop here OR a dealership and have them fix it.

The problem is that I need to know where to look.
I dunno if the shop is right or not on the heat shield thing.
But at 1k RPM at coasting idle when I got home it was ridiculous bad.
My girl heard it and literally looked at me with an odd look and said
"WTF is THAT?"

Like I said it seems both temp and RPM can vary the degree to which does this.

I do know that I GOTTA find out what it is so I can get the problem fixed.
I don't even know at this point if it could damage something on the car when it gets really bad.

Has anyone else had something similar happen?
Opinions on if it really is the heat shield.
What to do if it IS the heat shield?

What it may be if it is not?
I need some REAL help with this.
Thanks

you shouldnt have any buzzing noise.
sounds like your exhaust is vibrating somewhere.
chasing around exhaust problems can be not too fun.
i have BBK LT's, o/r x pipe, and it was touching the DS loop, had to have it tweaked a bit to get clearance.
i'm not sure what is exactly your problem, tho.
hope you fix it.

Check all your midpipe hangers and mufflers hangers. One of my muffler hangers ended up rattling even though it didnt even look like it was touching. I removed it and problem has been fixed ever since.

I understand your pain dude. I recently had a rattle that took me two weeks to track down. Mine was the over axle pipe bouncing up and hitting the corner of the trunk.

You need to get under there and go over over inch of pipe. You need to to grab the pipe and yank it up, down, sideways. Realize the pipe expands when its hot too. Since you feel like its up front, get under it and check those headers....something is hitting it. Get it on jack stands, get a good lite, rubber mallot, and go over every piece of metal. Take your time and you will find it.

I knew mine was in the back but couldnt find it. I had to really push the pipe up until it finally hit the trunk. I really couldnt believe the pipe moved that much....but it did. Now its fixed.

Good luck brother.

Retorque all of the pipe clamps an extra 1/8 - 1/4 turn.

Im taking it to the local dealership in a sec.
There's a guy there that is really nice in the service dep.

I'm gonna see if I can get him to put it on the lift and us look.
I'm gonna have the engine warm when we do.
Leave her in the garage for a bit running.

If it is the heat shield that is being hit what should I do?
You can't exactly remove them and it would have to be the headers themselves I think if it was the heat shield they were hitting.
Are they gonna have to yank her guts out to re tighten the headers?

O.K. Now I am getting REALLY upset.
Dealership said they would charge me 103 an hr just for labor.
Said it would probably take at least a couple of hours to properly diagnose where it was coming from and fix it.

I don't have the lift... I don't have the tools to do this.
I can't keep friggin driving two hours to that shop and two hours back either.
It is expensive and takes away not only gas money... but food and also time money.

Guy at the dealership said he would make the place who installed them fix it right instead of paying them to charge me alot to do it.
I understand that but the friggin gas money to drive up there and back cost money too.

I told him that I had to go up there in two weeks.
He said he would not drive it that long because the noise was so bad he thought it could rub a hole in something.

I don't know what the hell to do.

Do you not have a jack and two jack stands? Dont pay anybody, get under it yourself, you can find it.

seriously with all the money your spending in travel, I would get a jack, four jack stands, and a basic wrench set.

+1
or maybe get a set of ramps n put the front up. Look around and then see where the problem is. then get the appropriate tool to fix it. I had a rattle too and I know how bad it sucks, if u just take ur time tho u can figure it out for cheap
