Default 2011 Stereo

To those of you with a 2011 Mustang, what do you think of the radio? I have what I guess is the basic shaker system (whatever comes with the premium or C/S) and it seems a bit muffled compared to the Shaker 500 in my 07. I haven't really played with the setting yet but was curious what others thought. I'm am absolutely loving this car. The turn by turn directions with Synch are fantastic.

I find my stereo to be as good or better than the shaker 500 on my friend's 05. If you haven't adjusted the settings yet, that's probably your problem. Play with the bass and treble, the stock stereo settings suck.

I traded in an 06 GT for my 11 GT/CS. One of the first things I did with the 06 was replace the Shaker with aftermarket - had an Alpine head with XM, Memphis speakers replacing all factory speakers but woofers, all surrounded by dynomat, and a 480W, 6 channel, JL Audio A6450 amp, running one channel to each speaker and each door woofer separately.

This Shaker 500 in my new CS sounds awful compared to what I traded, and no amount of adjustment has been able to match what I had...not to mention every time I shut off my car, my radio resets to lowest AM station and I have to reconnect my iPod every time I get back in.

As much as I would like to mess with other mods, my first will likely be replacing factory speakers, having dynomat installed around all speakers, aftermarket amp again...etc. Ideally it will all work with the SYNC unit since I'm not sure I can replace it based on the way it's set in the dash.

No doubt the new Shaker 500 sounds better than the 06 version...but it still sounds like crap...bill

turn up the treble all the way and bass up to 1/2 to 2/3's for the best sound. Also, play around with some different sources. Alpine makes some nice 5X7's if you need more highs in your doors.

It sounds good for a factory system, i think replacing the speakers would make a huge improvment....

I had the upgraded Audiophile system in my 2007 Fusion, and that thing sounded amazing. It would shake the rear and side view mirrors when I turned it up.

This being the case, I am a bit disappointed with the Shaker 500 system. On my friend's 1999 Mustang GT, the Shaker 460 (?) system sounded amazing, so when ordering my 2011, I figured the Shaker 500 would be sufficient.

I guess I'm just spoiled by the superb sound system in the Fusion...

I'm telling myself that it's good that I didn't get the Shaker 1000 because the subs in the trunk would have weighed the car down too much :P But seriously, I'm already way over budget with this car payment. I couldn't afford the surcharge of $1400 option.

Yeah, I was more than happy with the shaker 500 in my 07. I don't think this is the same stereo. Not terrible by any means, just not quite as good.

I replaced the speakers (front & rear) on my 2010 with Shaker500 system. I was stunned when I pulled them out and they were paper cones....

How hard is it to replace the speakers in the door? Not the subs as they seem more than adequate, just the ones towards the top of the door panel.
Thanks!

Take the door panels off and replace the speakers - not very time consuming. Though you will have to re-terminate the speaker wiring or buy a harness since the stock wiring has a Ford connector between the car side wiring and the speaker. I replaced the front speakers in my 07 with Polk DB 5251 component speakers. Going this route is definitely more time consuming but they sound awesome.
