Default Can you use RTV sealant with ...

This may be a stupid question but...

Can you use RTV sealant with an oil filter adapter ?

I ask because when I ordered a sandwich adapter from glowshift, I also ordered 2 gaskets.

One got replaced because it sprang a leak, and im on the second one.

I have gone to local auto parts stores and what they sell is limited and none of the gaskets fit perfectly and don't look like they would fit even if I tried.

Ordering from glowshift is a PITA because I live in Canada and shipping alone would cost more than the part ( 4x the cost of the original part ).

So, can i just use RTV sealant between the block and adapter ? I am assuming it would be just as good if not better because the sealant would last longer than the original gasket.

Any insight?

Last thing I want is the gasket to spring a leak and dump my entire cranckase of oil on the road ( it has happened before )

TIA

As long as it's applied properly I guess I can't see why not. Make sure you get an oil-safe RTV.

Just curious; why do you need an adapter?

oil temp and oil pressure guages

i had formerly run a braided steel line from the stock oil pressure guage port to a brass T set up for the 2 senders, but the steel line
runs too far from the block for me to get any sort of oil temp reading

so i went back to the adaptor to get a more accurate reading
