Pulling Codes
Grandson's 2005 V6 and are the codes instantly displayed if a fault occurs or must they be pulled (can it be done by key coding, like my '91 Escort GT, or is a scanner required). The young one (college sophomore) called me today while on the road and said the car was bucking and would not accelerate, I told him to stop at the nearest parts store and buy a bottle of HEET and put it in the tank and proceed on home (young ones never seem to keep more than 1/4 tank of fuel in their cars), He stopped and bought the HEET and then proceeded on home and we put it in the tank (what part of buy it, put it in the tank, proceed on home did he not understand). One real thunderstorm in progress here but tomorrow we will start her up and see what happens. If push comes to shove I will motor here down to ADVANCE and let them free code her.
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Tough to say without more info. You'll need to have the codes pulles at Advance, AutoZone or any other place that'll pull them for free. And I'd hold off on adding the HEET.
It never hurts to clean the TB and MAF and install a new fuel filter. Those 3 alone have cured a number of drivability issues.
Let us know what the codes are.

Pulling Codes
Off to ADVANCE for a code check and pritout. Grandson said CEL flashed at him as car surged and lost power, I will also do the PCV Valve, Fuel Filter and air filter while aI am at it. Thanks for the responses, if I can get him off to school (250 miles away) I can rest for a short period.
Well not really as Daughter's Durango broke a power window regulator yesterday so that is my next adventure.
