Grandson called me this AM from College, his 2005 4.0 V^ is running rough and is throwing (his words) a code of Electronic Throttle Control, I told him to take it to the dealer (car has extended warranty) and let them take care of the problem (car has had this issue before, but intermittant). Is this a common issue?

 

Is what a common problem? Your grandson calling you from college every time his car throws a fit, or the throttle issue? LOL

 

Could be as minor as a throttle body or MAF cleaning or more severe as an instrument failure. Hard to diagnose from your description.

 

Yup engineering student and I cannot get him to buy even a Haynes and get under the hood. Sounds to me like the TPS on the drive by wire system, but I am 250 miles away.
