Here in Florida they have the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona around thanksgiving and I've seen tons of modded cars with no marker/signal lights at all... Maybe you could catch a break if you were prepared to remove them on the spot.

I spoke to a cop that used to live in my neighborhood and he said most cops won't pull you over just for having the tint, however, if you get pulled over for a simple traffic violation (speeding, running a red light/stop sign etc.)they could give you a separate citation for the tint. My tail lights and side blinkers are SMOKED, not blacked out, so they are not super dark.

I don't think a cop will give you s*$@ for having them, unless an accident occurs, then he may give you a citation, if it's your fault.
Where I live, all the other 'Stang owners who mod theirs have smoked out lights. A guy down the street from me has smoked out headlamp covers, and he drives his tricked out ride as a DD (even with cams and other engine modes).

The only thing the cops give him $#!+ for is speeding (he has plenty of those tickets). But not once in his many tickets have they ever written him up for darkened out tail and head lamps.

That is a very good point. But I guess when you invoke the DOT issue, it depends which DOT regs you are violating.
Most, if not all, custom smoked/darkened lamp covers are US DOT (Federal) approved.

But as with federal laws and regulations, it is up to the states to adopt USDOT regs or come up with something more stringent, unless there is a provision in USC (United States Code, federal laws) that allows exceptions.

In the case of Cali, if C-DOT regs are more stringent than USDOT regs, then it is possible that his custom darkened aftermarket lamp covers are illegal.
If they are, I would not do it because it seems very apparent that Cali cops WILL enforce the most minuscule traffic laws.

LOL, you are not in Cali, at least your plates as they are shown say you are from Washington State.

I have heard from way too many people that Cali cops are draconian and will make stops for the silliest of things, including blacked out lamp covers when the driver is not doing anything unsafe or a anything that is a clear moving violation.

I have tinted (not smoked) my rear, quarter and turn lights and have not had issues. I did however get pulled over and ticketed for my window tint.

On a side note, I did turn on my parking lights while waiting for the cop to approach, all the while with my foot on the brake. LOL

I live in Santa Monica so LA county, and as Cali cops pulling you over for the slightest reasons they do, they pulled me over for no front plate while I was going a few UNDER the speed limit.

With that rear wing you should be fine, that will distract them from the blinkers...
