well... the title says it all, what is it and what is the process. I want to do it to my mustang as an inexpensive way to make my car sound more aggressive.

 

Simply stated, you dont have mufflers..just a straight pipe in place of mufflers. you can simply go to a muffler shop and have them cut and bend you a piece of pipe and put some tips on it for a nominal fee.

 

ditto....just got my pypes pype bomb axel backs in the mail yesterday (from AM)....cant wait to install.

 

pretty much all exhaust manufacturers make them. Just remove the mufflers and add straight piece of pipe and expect a bit more volume in the exhaust and maybe some complaints from the neighbors.

 

And possibly more tickets from cops for excessive noise.
In my neck of the woods, the cops WILL actually pull you over if your car exhaust note offends their delicate eardrums.

I am not sure, but I believe there is a decibel limit city ordnance and that is what they are enforcing.
For your area, I would check your city and state ordinances and laws to see if there is a decibel limit. If there is, you might consider going with some sort of muffler, like a straight-through or some other very high flow system that will bring you down to noise compliance.

 

I had a motorcycle cop pull up to me yesterday at a light and motion for me to roll down my window. He says, "Man that car sure sounds good. What have you had done to it?" I am thinking oh hell here we go. I tell him just some exhaust work, and he says "well that is a good looking car." I was shocked. I thought about asking him if he wanted to run em, but figured I better not push my luck. Hahahaha!

 

ROFL! Damn good story! If that happened to me, I would have literally fell out of my car and also possibly $#!+ me britches!

The cops around my town are always looking for things like "Exhibition of acceleration" and "excessive noise" and other things that are clearly not actual street racing.

For a cop to be cool to you like that, that is awesome!

 

Yea I was really shocked. I figured when he asked it was a sign of things to come. It just goes to show that they do pay attention to stuff like that. I am just happy I did not come fish tailing around the corner. I never knew he was somewhere behind me until he pulled up. Like anything else I guess there are good ones and bad ones.
