ticking noise under WOT?

ticking noise under WOT?
I'm hearing a ticking noise under WOT just around 4K rpm and up.
It has started in the past couple weeks.
I have a 2007 GT/CS N/A - no appreciable mods (other than suspension a year ago) - stock otherwise.
So, the differences in the last couple weeks:
1) 2 weeks ago Ford did a 45K service maintenance
2) 3 days later I received my new SCT Tuner and Bama tunes (91 perf loaded)
3) same day put in a K&N filter - ya, I know CAI is better, but i'm still under extended warrenty, live in CA, blah blah blah.
I switch from 87 to 91 by running the tank down on 87, filling up with 91 a few gallons, running that down, then filling up with 91 and loading the tune. Then I was easy on the pedal for a few days.
...
So, the only other fun to this story is; can an oil change/service from Ford cause any kind of ticking? If they do something wrong? don't tighten something down? The reason I ask is the tech that worked on my car was LAME - after I picked up the car the brakes were grinding and the car shuttered a lot under breaking and on a bit when accelerating. I had the bright idea to check the lugnuts on the front wheels. They were F'ing LOOSE by nearly a full turn.
So .... lame tech? Can that be cause?
or tune?
or do I run the tank back to 87 and switch back to stock tune and take it into Ford?

Switch back to the stock tune and see if the tick goes away. If not, proceed to my next suggestion.
What oil filter did they use on your engine? It's possible they either used a cheap crap filter, or the Motorcraft 820 filter is defective and not allowing as much oil flow as it should be. This can cause your high RPM tick due to starvation of oil flow to the valve train.
I would try to swap the oil filter to make sure that's not the problem (assuming they used a cheapo). It's happened before.
You may also want to ask what oil they used. I'm assuming MC syn blend 5W-20

Sounds liek you're detonating. Are you able to adjust the parameters of the Bama tune? If so load it again and select adjust, scroll through until you come to the timing, scroll to the timing advance of the 4k- up timing and retard it 2 degrees. If the ticking goes away then contact Bama and let them know the tune needs to be adjusted or you can just leave it with the manual adjustment.

Ok, I'll switch back. (dammit just filled up so that'll take 4-5 days for the tank)
It seems that I can't see the filter unless I jack the car up, which I don't have, so I'll have to ask them what kind.
What's the harm in running a full tank of 91 with a stock 87 tune? ... reason I ask is because I noticed my mpg was super crappy with 91 in and 87 tune and I'd like to get through the tank of gas and back to 87 faster.
Is any amount of 'tick' noise okay? I'm guessing not, but ignorance has me asking anyway.

Unleashedbeast - ya; and my ear is not trained for the difference, but this sound I would never define as a 'knock' ... tick is the only word that comes to mind.
So ... I set it -2 degrees for the 4-6krpm setting (it had 0 checked by default)
I ran it up and down the streets here (thank god for half/rural back streets in town) ... and at first I didn't hear the noise -at all- for about 2 minutes of driving through WOT in 2nd and 3rd gears ... but I kept driving it to be sure and the tick sounds very very faint now.
I can't tell (or don't know) if that's because the engine wasn't hot enough yet in the first minute or two? for the tick to get even louder again? (though I did more driving now than I did earlier today when it was louder from the start - didn't have to wait at all)
Also, it seems the noise happens only for a few hundred rpms now around 4500 to 4900, not before or after ... and it was definitely from 4k up to redline before.
If the windows are even cracked any bit at all that tick can't be heard.

If it was on the other hand, a higher octane tune with a lower octane gas, then there is a chance of detonation.
