Default Couple Cam Qs

Looking at Detroit Rocker Cams from Bren...Couple Qs...One, Do I HAVE to have 4.10s, or will my 3.55s be ok (manual)...Anyone running just GTAs/equavalent (sp) and cams (no LT headers, H,X or Y pipes, ect), so mostly stock? I have a CAI/X3 from Bren...that's it, all stock otherwise...Any thoughts?

I would be doing 4.10's and long tubes before cams. 4.10's improve driveability and long tubes allow you to get the most out of the cams

The Detroit Rockers have near perfect driveability far as idle and low rpm's. 4:10's aren't REQUIRED for cammed cars but it's generally recommended as most cams don't really kick in until above 3k rpm's and the lopier one's like the FRPP Hot Rods or Thumpr cams will actually be slightly less power when under the 3k curve.

But I doubt the Detroit Rockets have that issue, you should be fine with your stock gears. But the 4:10's ARE a whole lotta fun :-)

A lot also depends on what power levels you want, if looking for a big n/a build, gotta do gears, long tubes, pullies, delete plates, ect ect. But if just looking for a nice lope with near stock driveability, the Rockers are way to go.

FWIW, if you want to obtain any real benefits with cams (NOT that you won't get any benefit), you should add LT's. Cams will help the engine breath but by not adding LT's and either losing the cats or going with hi flows, your exhaust (engine to H-pipe) becomes a weak link.

awesome two answers...thanks...I am just looking for sound...any whp is just an added bonus...I hate to alter my stock + GTA setup, as the sound, to me, is just perfect, but of course the old school big bock sound...Not sure I'm going this way, just doing some research...$1K for sound (cams + install) is tough...

I had the detroit rockers installed a few months ago along with my H pipe and flowmasters. So far its been great, I got some hp out a nice sound, however with that exhuast set up i just described the trumpeting was just unbelievably loud so i had some High Flow Cats installed. Thats made a huge difference.

A couple of things when u do get the cams installed atleast this is my experience. WHen i first started to drive my car after the install my power from takeoff to 2nd gear was like stock again. Plus when i started the car it smelled like fuel. I called benspeed and they emailed me a new tune which has been perfect. I got my power back.

Just like what was already stated. Gears are good to get swapped out but u maybe ok with the stockers. Call chandler at brenspeed he is the person to talk too and will shoot u an honest answer or email him. He only takes a day to get back to you on his emails. Words of the wise here too. As i have been on this forum for awhile. Its good to get an idea of whats going on as far as modding your car but never hesitate to call a speed shop like brenspeed.

You only need a clutch if your current one is dying. The stock clutch will easily hold the extra HP from cams

Just talk with Brenspeed. I personally would do the CAMS and then run some 4.10's to help out the low RPM driving.
