Default X-Pipe vs H-Pipe

I'm about to move forward with putting on axle backs and have also been toying with the idea of putting on an X-Pipe. Any experience out there? Does an X-Pipe change the sound by allowing more volume through? Does it really provide any advantage?

The sound will change slightly, mainly it is ment to promote a better flow pattern.

Many folks report it results in a raspier exhaust note. I've heard claims of minor HP gain but I doubt it's anything noteworthy.

Same here. Personally the reason I plan on sticking with H is to maintain a deeper exhaust note, I purposely bought the exhaust I did because of it's rumble rather than scream.

I like a X pipe. It has in my opinion a smoother more sophisticated tone more European. I find the H pipe more staccato the pulses from the right and left are more separated while the X has both pulses coming from both pipes at the same time. I don't find raspy or the H pipe deeper. More popping and explosive rumbling tone goes with the H pipe.

I have had both. X is raspy. H is deeper. Don't expect any power increase from mid pipe and or axle back up grades. Do it for tone.

Thanks all, the deeper American muscle car sound is my preference. Sounds like staying with the H is best bet.

sound is subjective
switching to an off road midpipe will eliminate the restrictin of the cats and make it louder
what axle back are you getting?

I just put on an X yesterday. Car seems less restricted and breathes better but it quieted the car down. Loved the rumble.
