I just wanted to see if anyone on this forum has come up with a way to stop the rattle in the Hurst short throw shifter. I love the shifter, but sometime the rattle gets too annoying. I have heard pretty much everything that can be tried, but you never know if someone has discovered the "perfect" solution. Thanks for all comments.

A few drops of Break-Free Lubricant/Preservative around the spherical bearing every six months or so, and it's quiet as can be. Black bottle, 4oz, can be found at most good sporting goods stores, gun shops, and even at Wal-Mart.

And, if you own guns, you should have some around for those, too. Works really well.

Heres what you do. I had the same problem.

Go to your local hardware store, find some strong, nice quality bolts and washers for the two holes that connect the shaft to the base (lol).

Purchase loctite blue thread locker and apply generously when you tighten the bolts up.

Tighten the bolts tight...very tight

*Make sure your ball is screwed in nice and hard too....to prevent **** slippage

Gun oil sounds pretty cool, but it won't tighten it up like a solid thread locker

what?

the gun oil gets applied the "bearing" that the shifter sits in. the oil displaces all the air inside this bearing. this cushion of oil absorbs the vibrations...and then no noise.

Thread locker would be interesting too see how fast it ruined the shifter
