X or H pipe
A true dual exhaust should be connected in some way for flow benifits and sound quality. Not louder but better sounding to the ear. V6 exhaust is only a single. So you do not need a connection between the two.
Simon
A V6 has exhaust on each side of the engine just like a V8.
A V8 with single exhaust still needs a X or H pipe.

I will explain this afternoon, I have something I need to do first. (go get some firewood).

either a v8 or v6 would benefit from a cross-over in a dual exhaust. better scavenging.
when you have both manifolds coming into 1 exhaust pipe, there is no cross over bc there is only 1 pipe.
when you do a dual exhaust on a v6, a cross over is better than straight pipe.

This is like telling a joke and someone else tells that punch line.
I will add one thing, The 4.6 is especially vulnerable to the H-X pipe phenomena. The 4.6 has two, double exhaust pulses on the same bank. So a 4.6 would benefit by having both the H and the X pipes, V-6 don't need one.
