Rear view camera - Wiring Questions - Need help
Hello together,
i like to install in my GT 2007 a rear view camera with TFT Monitor in the Backview mirror, because the rear window ist really dark and its a really bad backview when its rainy and darkish. The back driving with open driver door is also not all the times funny, because i wear varifocals...Youre so lucky in the states with your big parking places. Here its so, that you have mostly 1 feed place or less to the neighbour cars.
So i want to make the back driving a little bit easier.
The Hardware mounting is no problem, but i have questions about the electric installation because we all know that its easy to kill the SJB. The Wiring Diagramm in the Haynes manual is not really a help.
I like to connect it in the way, that i have the control over the camera and monitor power manually. There is a power on switch on the TFT backup view mirror. (Normally they are switched to on with the R Position via the rear view lamps)
So my questions are:
Where can i connect the camera to ignition +12V and also the TFT Monitor +12v safe without a risk to kill the SJB? The Power should only be there, when the engine is on. I heard somewhere that there is a wire with +12v ignition in the trunk without connection to the SJB. The Power consumption from the components are around 10W for camera and monitor. Which wiring lines should i use?
I did not found a thread with this exact informations. Maybe im blind.
Many many thanks for your help and please excuse my terrible 30 years not muched used school english.
Greetings from germany

Let me be the first to say welcome.
I don't have any advice on installing a rear camera in a mustang, I just turn my head and look back there. I'm sure you will get some advice.
Don't worry about your English, a lot in this country can't speek English at all.

Hello together,
is here really no one who has connect a rear view camera system by himself.
I only need an information about a safe 12v switched power point to connect a relais without risk of an SJB fault.
Thanks for your help!

This is not really a common thing done to our cars. Not alot of us have done it, so realistically, you probably won't get much help here. I know that sounds mean, but I think it would be mean to keep you waiting on an answer that might not come. Sorry!
many thanks for your answer! I wouldnt have thought that.
But ok, its in fact the same as installing a aftermarket seat heating system or any other equipment which needs 12v+ when the engine is running.
I need only a switched power which is safe to switch a relais. I heard somewhere, that there is a white/yellow cable downwards the ignition key.
I heard also about a white cable on the driver side harness next to the seat with switched power.
I read a thread with very good install informations about a camera in the trunk key hole, but there was no information about the switched power connection.
Where do the people connect their add on components?
Many thanks for your help!
So you plan on a relay, but need a 12v switched source? Your best bet would be using the multimeter which I assume you already have to find a verified one to switch the relay. The current used by an common 12v SPDT for switching is negligible.
However, I think the wiring is the same for my year. So for mine it's (but double-check it):
Ignition(12v switched) = YELLOW (+) PSC/ECU MODULE TO THE RIGHT OF GLOVE BOX PIN 35 OF 40 PIN PLUG
And I'm betting my Deutsch is far worse than your English, as my grandparents on that side are now dead, so I haven't even attempted to speak it since I was like 14. I can still curse in it rather fluently I'd wager, but that's about all.
If you register at the12volt.com you can get access to extra schematics, diagrams, and general installation information should the above not pan out.

thanks for this informations!! I check this on monday. I had to buy a new multimeter because mine shows not all the time correct informations.
I read here from some guys that they use Fuse 13 for their add on instruments with a "add a circuit" part. Is this not also possible to switch a relay or is it risky for the SJB (ECU)? Is there switched power on fuse 13 because in my manual this is defined as "not in use"??
Greetings
Mario
