gears question
I have a 2007 mustang gt convertible. Currently have a jlt CAI, slp loudmouth exhaust and sct x3 tuner...I want to install gears. It is an automatic. I was thinking of going with 3.73s, just wanted to know if that sounds like the right gear for my car and if not what should I go with. The car is a daily driver also.
Thanks for any feedback.

There are a ton of threads about this, search around a little. From what I hear, most owners with autos like the 4.10s but it will chew up your highway mpgs. The 3.73s will still hurt your highway consumption though not as bad as the 4.10s

Depends on your driving, commute and the gear you have now. I have 4.10's on my auto daily driver. Some go with 3.73 for a minor mpg savings. 4.10 if you want the bigger bang. If you get stuck in traffic alot, the upshifting and downshifting gets annoying because it happens so fast.
ALSO you need to have a custom tune written for the new gear because the shift points have to be changed.

I'm not sure where you live since I'm guessing the pineapple under the sea...and i'm just taking a wild guess here lol isn't your actual state. I live in South Jersey and we do get snow in the winter, sometimes a lot. I just want to make sure that my car isn't completely useless in the snow with whatever gears I switch to. Thanks for the input also. And yes I planned on going to Tillman, Evo or Bama for my custom tune after the gears.

When i initailly installed 410's I drove to atlanta and back. I was able to get 22mpg. Now this was all interstate and a 8 trip. In town i could get 17 and 15 with spirited town driving. There really isnt much to compare when your asking about mpg between the two gears. I say go with 410. BTW I have a twinscrew with the 410's and I can drive on slushy or snowy roads in indiana.

A tuned auto is going to have a touchy throttle regardless if it's stock gear. If you need to grab traction, say in the snow (if bad enough), you can just throw the shifter into gear and then manually upshift. In such cases I just start in 3rd gear so I don't spin in the snow.
On a good dry day and if I feel like having some fun, I throw it into 2nd and manually shift. 1st is too short and the stock shifter is not the best. It does not lock and way too easy to push the shifter too hard to skip a gear...
I'm in Indiana, got quite a bit of snow and ice this year and have dedicated snow tires. Almost that time of year to put on the summer fun ones

What are your driving habits? Mostly HWY, combo of street/hwy, how many miles a week and are you thinking "fast as possible"? That will would make a big difference...you have nice gear choices: 3.73, 4.10 and 4.30.
