Default Is this price quote too high?

Well, I'm getting a few price quotes for some work I want to do. I was quoted $550 to install a set of long tube headers, which doesn't seem too bad. I was also quoted $600 to install shocks, struts, springs and HD strut mount. Is that a decent price or is that too high? I'd love to do some suspension work but $600 for the install puts it out of my budget right now.

That seems WAY high for suspension labor. And def a lil high on the header install. I'd have them break down where all the $$ is going to be spent. There's no way that it'll take 10 hours to install your suspension. Maybe 2-3 for the front and 1.5-2 for the rears.

Thats what I thought. It is a performance shop that specializes in mustangs so maybe they just charge an astronomical amount for labor or something.

Does anyone know of a decent shop around St.Louis MO?

i had mine installed, but FWIW one of th eguys in the local club did hois own. he just took the old strut/spring assembly to a locla shop and had them change the new springs and stuts with the caster paltes, pulled the old ones, put on the new ones and was done. You dont even need to remove the springs from teh struts if you are adding both new spring and struts and adding camber plates. anyone can do that stuff, just start callgin shops or rent a spring compressor.

I'd go rent a spring compresser and do it yourself, it's really not hard.

The LT's install isn't a bad price. The suspension seems high even if it includes an alignment.

Grab a buddy, a torque wrench, some hand tools, a couple of jack stands, a jack, and rent a spring compressor (about $50, refundable).

Print out THIS-FRONT and THIS-REAR for torque values and assembly/disassembly references.

Then pull up THIS on a laptop close by and get to work.

Save yourself a few hundred dollars and have some fun working on your car.
It might look a little intimidating but once you get the wheels off there's really nothing to it. My brother and I did this on jack stands in the driveway and it took 5 hours. We even took a break for lunch, installed an x pipe, adjustable panhard bar, Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates, and put new tie rod ends on the car. We had to use the spring compressor on the old struts because the MM plates reused one of the rubber isolators from the factory strut mounts. It cost me a case of beer and $89.95 for an alignment at the Ford dealer.

If you're feeling really brave you can find a write-up somewhere on this site for a longtube install.....

I would say the headers are in the ball park! but the suspension stuff is too much, even if that includes the alignment!
